Some afternoon music after a nice morning out on the links.
Roxy Music - Stranded
Relatively early 1974 ATCO pressing.
I hadn't listened to this in a while and was thinking about ordering the new remaster but was happily surprised that my copy is very clean and the SQ is excellent.
What a great album!

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced
1973 MCA Records
|
|
Leon Russell - Carney
1972/2016 Analog Productions Remaster
|
Crosby, Stills and Nash - S/T First Album
1969 Atlantic Records
I have to say the harmonies on Helplessly Hoping rival any by The Beach Boys and The Beatles. In my opinion anyways.
|
+1 on My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves. Great album! |
John Lennon - Imagine. 1971 on Apple Records.
In honor of the Olympics. |
Fresh in from Acoustic Sounds.
Muddy Waters - Folk Singer on Analog Productions.
Great SQ. Muddy is in the house! |
Patty Griffin - American Kid from 2013 on New West Records.
I can't get enough of this album. I'm going to have to spin it for a second time tonight. |
Richard Buckner - Devotion & Doubt. On MCA CD from 1996. |
Johnny Winter - About Blues. 1969 Janus Records pressing. |
I always enjoyed the song Angry Eyes on the second L & M album. |
The Souther, Hillman, Furay Band. 1974 Asylum Records pressing.
Three great musicians and song writers but again not quite Crosby, Stills, and Nash. |
Sticking to the program with Cody Canada.
The Departed - Adventus. 2012 Underground Sound pressing. |
Cross Canadian Ragweed - The Purple Album streaming on the Node. |
++ on Blue Rodeo also. And while we’re talking about Canada let’s not forget about Cody Canada (from Texas) either. |
Big +2 to Son Volt. I was going to spin American Central Dust yesterday myself but my listening time was reprioritized. It’s on the TT now. Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, and Wilco were a big part of my favorite music in 90’s. Along with The Jayhawks, Whiskeytown, Steve Earle and Dwight Yoakam among others. Americana really hit home. |
Natalie is definitely one of my favorites and I would love to see her again if she were to tour.
|
On the wives subject we had a lot of the same interests growing up with the music from 60’s and 70’s that she still likes but her tastes now lean more towards top 40 stuff like Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars that she primarily listens to with ear buds at the gym. When I’m listening to music she will come into the room and sit down for maybe 15 minutes but that’s usually about it. She has other interests which is fine. We had dinner with a few friends this weekend and after dinner we will usually head to a music room for conversation and good music. I was playing Natalie Merchant’s Ophelia and mentioned that we had seen her in a small venue on her Leave Your Sleep tour and what a great show it was. My wife’s comment was that we had to sit on folding chairs. As Steve Earle would say. Nuff said. |
Jethro Tull - Stand Up. 1973 Chrysalis pressing of their 1969 album.
|
Pink Floyd - The Final Cut. 1983 Columbia pressing. Great SQ.
Updated my Clearaudio Concept TT with the Satisfy Carbon Fiber tonearm and updated the cart from the Hana EL to the Hana SL.
So far so good. Sounds great. |
Deep Purple - Fireball. 1971 UK Harvest pressing. |
Jefferson Airplane - Crown of Creation from 1968. RCA 1970 reissue. |
Bee Gees - Odessa. ATCO Records 1969 pressing. |
David Crosby & Graham Nash - Wind On The Water. 1975 ABC Records pressing. |
@bkeske.. I have recently revisited the first three James Gang albums with Joe Walsh after many years of not hearing them and they are even better than I remember. They have aged very well. |
James Gang - Thirds. 1971 pressing on ABC Records. Great three piece band and great Joe Walsh guitar. |
I picked up a sealed copy of Who's Next on MOV to replace my early Decca pressing that had seen better days. The SQ on the MOV copy is very good with no complaints but I noticed the dead wax was about twice as wide as on the Decca copy which I think would mean the grooves are cut narrower on the MOV copy. Would that mean the MOV pressing is from a digital master or would the groove width have nothing to do with that? |
+1 Procol Harum Live..
Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing At Baxter’s. 1970 RCA UK repress. |
Is the CS&N UD1S sold out already? |
Crosby, Stills & Nash 1969 self titled album. Harmonies don't get much better than on Helplessly Hoping. Atlantic repress from 1972 and the SQ is amazing. |
I have to say that my favorite Dead album back then and still now is American Beauty. I'll have to dial that up next.
|
Grateful Dead - Blues For Allah. 1975 pressing on Grateful Dead Records. |
Before picking up the remastered Workingman's Dead I was tempted to look for a used original pressing but have been frustrated lately with sellers that don't understand the meaning of NM or NM-. I've also been unhappy with a number of remastered or new pressings of older albums when compared to my original copies from the 60's or 70's when I find that the new pressings don't compare to the dynamics of the originals. I guess you win some and lose some. |
@slaw.. I'll bet that promo Dead copy sounds great. I jump on old promo copies whenever I get a chance when searching for specific albums. |
Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead 2020 50th Anniversary remaster on WB/Rhino. Sounds great but I don't have an original pressing to compare it to. |
Procol Harum's 1968 album Shine On Brightly. A&M/Varese Vintage 2017 Reissue. |
+1 to Roger Waters Amused To Death. One of my favorites among many favorites. The Youngbloods - Ride The Wind 1971 pressing on WB/Raccoon. How can you go wrong with a guitarist that goes by the name Banana.
|
Natalie Merchant - Leave Your Sleep from 2010. High Res streaming on Bluos/Amazon HD. Not sure if this was ever cut to vinyl but I haven’t been able to find it.
I saw her in a small venue on her tour for this album. She was wonderful.
|
@flennon..I believe Harry and your namesake were good friends for a time. |
Nilsson Schmilsson - early 70's on RCA Victor |
Moody Blues - On The Threashold Of A Dream. 2014 Music On Vinyl 180g pressing. |
Followed up on yesterday's posts on Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure. 1973 WB pressing. The production on this album was fantastic and the SQ on this pressing is equally fantastic. What a great album.
It's been way too many years since I last listened to this album.
The postings and suggestions from everyone on this thread are very much appreciated! |
+2 on Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure. I’ll be queuing that one up for tomorrow. Great choice.
|
Just finished listening to Genesis - Nursery Cryme. 1973 pressing on Charisma.
Started up ELP - Tarkus. 1971 pressing on Cotillion.
Two sides of the Progressive Rock spectrum. Nursery Cryme was like poetry. Tarkus is a full frontal assault!
|
Someone was talking about Boz Scaggs Loan Me A Dime a week or so ago so I thought I would give it a spin. I have it on the Duane Allman Anthology Capricorn Records pressing from 1972 and have to second or third or fourth after the original postings what a great song it is. The SQ is fantastic on this album also. My speakers are about 9' apart and when the vocal kicked in it sounded like it was coming from dead center between the two speakers. Great song! |
@spiritofradio .That 1-Step pressing of Fragile must be amazing. Great choice! |
@spiritofradio. I don’t have the remix but it sounds like I am going to have to look into it now. Thanks for the tip. |
Yes - Relayer. Early Atlantic pressing from 1974. I was big into progressive music back then and Yes was probably my favorite band at the time. Saw them on tour promoting the album and it was one of the best concerts I had ever seen.
Music sure can bring back some great memories. |
Well I wrapped up last night with John Coltrane A Love Supreme and I'm going to start tonight with the same album. Can't get enough of it. Nice 1968 repress on Impulse/ABC. Heavy vinyl and a really heavy gatefold laminated cover. The quality of the old jazz albums was the best. And the SQ is absolutely fantastic. |
