Bis ans Ende der Welt - original filmmusik
Wim Wenders! Good flick and what a great collection of music. Run Out Groove issue my wish list now.
@j_husker I’ve been wanting to get to the in groove for awhile. Glad you got the chance. Seems like a great store. I see on YouTube all the thousands of used records he takes in and he seems like a true enthusiast. Ive bought quite a few records from him online - figuring he’s owed the business when his videos are how I find out about many issues. Home Depot box huh…? Hope it had good padding inside. Will look forward to hearing more about your score. |
@slaw I keep a list going on my phone of all my record orders. I’ve had to copy and move that one up the list several times so as not to forget it. Really looking forward to having my own copy of Shangra-La ( and the rest, only a couple of repeats) hope it’s a good pressing. |
@waltersalas 👍 and I think Tom is right on too. Lambchop is a band that I have to remember to remember more often too. |
@waltersalas @slaw @tomic601 @bslon et. al. Streamed “Inperial” this morning. Like Ramond Carver or Richard Ford short stories set to Cowboy Junkies music. Very cool. Great to learn about another atmospheric band from my hometown. Thanks. |
@fourwnds Glad to see your post here. Welcome. |
@big_greg Nice score Greg! |
@tomic601 yes, had a lovely evening with the Jennys, thank you for asking. Grey’s Anatomy (a pretty good alto herself) was very impressed with the talent. Yes, unmiked, A cappella, Parting Glass as encore. Only two songs from their two first albums though. Mostly new and unfamiliar. beautiful voices. To me Heather sort of stole the show. Her live voice relatively more impressive and surprising compared to what I know of her from recordings. Ruth most beautiful soprano clearly proven but I have to say she sounds far far better on records than in the room we were in. the Paramount/Snitzer Concert Hall is one of Portland’s two largest music-purposed venues, seats about 2,800 (sold out - good for them!). And it’s a long way from seeing them in a 200-300 seat theatre where we used to (right?). This is where our absolutely great symphony plays and the sound has to be the worst of any major venue I’ve ever heard. So, although the performances were impressive, the sound was poor at best and did not convey emotion. I didn’t even cry during One Voice. Glad we went. But keep telling myself I shouldn’t attend that venue any more. My living room system is infinitely better. |
I find that record to be extremely interesting. It’s a musical statement that to me has to be taken seriously no matter what kind of music you like. They really cared; the musicians, the engineer, the record makers. I appreciate that you like it too Joel. These things are self evident, I know. Great post. Great thread. heading out tonight with Grey’s Anatomy to the big concert hall to see the Wailin’ Jennys. Enjoy the music friends.

@whitefishpoint1175 +1 Snarky Puppy. That’s a great band. |
@pkatsuleas Hey, while you’re on the lookout for Camel records, you might also keep your eyes peeled for Caravan (St.Dustin’s, Girls who grow plump in the night, et. al.) & Hatfield and the North (both albums). Might yield happiness similar to Camel. yMMV of course. |
@bslon yeah, I like the Bardens era best, but there are some great moments on the later albums as well. Latimer is so good. I think he even out Gilmore’s Gilmore. |
@slaw Re: disciplined streaming. I know you were half way kidding, I mean, enthusiastic and unapologetic record buyers what we are, right. I tell myself that if I discover something I like on the streamer I’ll take my time and research, ask around, if the vinyl is worthwhile. In practice I’m hardly ever that disciplined though. It may be possible to enjoy the best of both. I think of the regular members here @noromance Brian might have the balance down best. |
@mwinkc thanks. Great post. |
lovely record in every way. I’ve had the digital since it came out (actually bought it on iTunes…) but didn’t know it had been mastered for record until Jim posted about it. Thanks Bro! Nice relatively quiet (not smooth) Jazz renditions of familiar old hymns, with Aoife’s extraordinarily vocals, on perfectly quiet wax, in an art jacket. |
