Some good stuff you guys have been listening to.  Yes, The Tubes were a great band.  Fee Waybil was an accrobat on stage and the music was a blast.  I saw them 3 times between 1974 - 1976.

I had no idea how my mention of wallpaper removal wouls spark so many, very funny, comments.

listened to a few again last night, mostly those which I recently purchased.  Have to do that before filing them.

10cc "The Original Soundtrackk"

Muddy Waters "Folk Singer"

Roxy Music  "Avalon"

Pink Floyd  "A Momentary Lapse of Reason"

Heading up to Mammoth Mountain in the morning for a few days of early season skiing.  No vinyl, but some great fun!  I'll be back to my system on Thursday.

Happy listening...

I'm with Brian about having physical media.  I do intend to add a digital front end at some point.  And for the same reasons as outlined by several, above.  Analog, physical media still rules in my life.

That said, yest Steve, I still want to upgrade my analog rig.  I'm just not satisfied with what I have and yearn for another level up.  That, I feel confident, will be my last analog rig (though I will likely add a second tonearm for cartridge options, etc.).  I am looking at upgrading my speakers first, and then the decision on the analog rig.  Like I said, I am not getting any younger...
Last night...

Fleetwood Mac  "Kiln House"  reissue, and sounds very good.

Pink Floyd  "Momentary Lapse Of Reason"  Remix & update, 45 rpm double disc set.

Muddy Waters  "Folk Singer" Analog Productions, 45 rpm 2-disc set.  Just amazing how well mic'd that session was.  I got this a few weeks ago and this was just my second time to listen to it.  I'm floored by the SQ and the music as well.

Now, for the Pink Floyd remix.  Some folks only want the original and are not interested in a remix.  I can understand that.  But with this remix it was done by the artists themselves so hey, it's their music and if that is how they want to bring it to market I am fine with that.  I only had the album on CD since it first was released and wanted a vinyl copy.  I can say there are a few differences in the remix but certainly nothing that would make me feel it's a very different album.  Rather, I can easily say the differences are well done enhancements to the album.  And it gets significantly better from there.  Regarding the media, I am fortunate that all 4 sides are exceptionally quiet vinyl and very flat.  Yeah!  And as for the overall SQ it is absolutely fabulous.  Visceral bass, impeccable staging and imaging, depth of music is just off the charts.  It's one of those albums that you can turn up the volume and go "WOW" and then turn it up some more and go "Holy Crap!" and then turn it up again and, well, you get the idea.  And the packaging along with the large booklet are all of superb materials.  Highly recommend this album, it's a real treat.
Dave Mason  "It's Like You Never Left"

Supertramp  "Crime Of The Century"  MFSL copy, perfect condition.

Just arrived via FedEx, Pink Floyd "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" Pink Floyd Records, 45 rpm 2-LP set.  This should be fun for Saturday night.
@bslon

Stick around, and yes, this is a fun place.

I made some adjustments and have improvement.  Not what I want, but better than I recently had.  I'll be listing to vinyl again.  But still, I am going to upgrade my analog rig.
This is fun!  What a wonderful group of people.

I've been having some serious trouble with my analog front end.  I believe it's my cartridge.  Foolishly, I sold ALL of my old cartridges so not even one do I have for changing out to test and trouble shoot.  I'm bringing my rig over to Upscale Audio fairly soon and they are going to check the stylus/cantilever.  Also my phono stage, just in case.  And that is why I have not been playing vinyl lately.

On the bright side, no matter the outcome, I am also looking to upgrade my analog front end.  I believe that a new turntable, tonearm, and cartridge are in the cards for me in the very near future.

I am not getting any younger.  Now is the time to make some rather significant steps forward in my system.  And then, enjoy!

Look at what Brian has been doing.  Same idea, I believe.
James, I also have the "Rhymin Simon" album, bought it new in 1973.  It's excellent!

Your question on the SQ of my "I Robot" UHQR pressing.  The sound is slightly tilted up, a signature of the times.  However, not at all bombastic or obnoxious.  And the overall depth, imaging is a definite notch above the standard pressing.  The vinyl is exceptionally quiet, which was one of the hallmark traits of the UHQR series.  It is truly excellent!  I wouldn't pay the going price for it (around $500 and up) but I am truly happy that I got my copy when it retailed for $50 and paid only $35 for it. 😃👍
James,

I don't care how many times I have listened to "I Robot", that album is still one of my all-time favorites, both musically and sonically.  I have an original pp issue and I also have a UHQR issue, both in perfect condition.  The UHQR copy is #664 of the master stamper, pressed in April, 1983.  The box includes a "UHQR Certificate Of Authenticity", signed by the President of Mobile Fidelity.  Way cool, and sounds phenomenal.  It's worth a small fortune (last I checked, around $500), but of course, it's not for sale.
Brian,
Fabulous!  Congratulations!  Those speakers sound really good.
Enjoy them in great health.
Jefferson Airplane  "Bless Its Pointed Little Head"  Brian posted this a few days ago, and hey, I have that.  Cleaned it and, surprisingly, the vinyl is very quiet.  I saw the Airplane in that same year the album was recorded, late in 1969 at The Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino.  Second row, center stage.  I bought the album sometime during 1970.  I saw them again in '71.  First up was Hot Tuna, then the Moody Blues, then the Jefferson Airplane.  Outdoor concert, I was about 30 feet from the stage, and in the center.  What memories...

P.J. Harvey  "To Bring You My Love"  What an interesting album.
Hello again... I have been doing some other things in life and haven't had my system running for days now.  That will change, tomorrow.

Just checking in to say hi and hope all is well with everyone.
I see some really great tunes are being enjoyed.  Very nice!
Steve, you reminded me to pull out the Brian Ferry album for later tonight.  That too, is a great album for a Saturday night.
The Steve Miller Band  "Sailor"  I have had this since 1973.  SQ is OK, but the music is fabulous.

These two just arrived today...

Dave Mason  "It's Like You Never Left"  Discussed on this thread last week, I realized that I did not have this.  I bought it (NM) and it just arrived.  It's a wonderful album, so glad that I now have it.  Thanks guys!

Muddy Waters  "Folk Singer"  Analogue Productions/QRP 45rpm.  WOW!  This is phenomenal.  Holy cr$p, the music is wonderful and this sounds just so fantastic.
Atlanta Rhythm Section  "Champagne Jam"  I got this after it was mentioned on this thread, earlier this year.

Premiata Forneria Marconi  "Photos Of Ghosts"  An Italian group, I bought this back in 1973, when it first released.  Interesting stuff...

Marvin Gaye  "What's Going On"  Such a beautiful album.  Stays true, to this day.
Jim, Rush - Moving Pictures is one hell of an album.  I'll have to play it this weekend.  I have an early period press in perfect condition and also a reissue done in DMM (direct metal master).  That one seems to be a bit more forward, but I think my original copy sounds just a bit more organic.

Steve Miller  "Children Of The Future"  Not such good SQ, but what a great album.

George Benson  "In Flight"  Rather good SQ, and also a great album.
Last night...

Tim Weisberg  "Night Rider!"  The Weisbergs were mentioned earlier so that made me look for one of my Tim Weisberg albums.

Jennifer Warnes  "Another Time, Another Place"  This is her most recent album.  I preordered it over a year ago and got it within a month or so.  Impex Records does a masterful job.  Great music, fantastic SQ.

Talking Heads  "Speaking In Tongues"  I think that I just got lucky when receiving this reissue a few months back.  It seems to be a real "white hot stamper".

Jethro Tull   "Stand Up"  The Steven Wilson remix.  Fabulous album!
Thanks for the good suggestion on "It's Like You Never Left".  I don't have that in my Dave Mason collection so I logged on to Discogs and found plenty of them for a great price.  I researched some and bought one for $9.39 including tax and shipping.  NM quality, of course.
Tim Curry   "Fearless"  I usually remember to play this at some point, every October.  Dr. Frank 'N Furter...

The Who  "Tommy"  The Geffen remaster/reissue.  Yes, I know that it came from a digital file.  However, it sounds much better than my 1974 reissue on Decca Records.  I'll be giving away that one.
@j_husker

"Lights off, candle burning."

I love that.  I think I will do just that on Saturday night.  My wife is gone for the weekend so it's just me and the dog.  I'll make it a "spacey" night.

Brian, I can't say that I have done that regimen.  I use Q-tips after every shower and carefully dry my ears with them.    They remain very clean.

Jackson Browne  "For Everyman"

The Cars  "Heartbeat City"  an early period press, NM/M- for $10.  I did well on that purchase.
David Bowie  "Station To Station"  Got the idea to play this from a posting above.  Bought this in 1976, as soon as it was released.  Perfect condition!

John Mayall & Friends  "Along For The Ride"  I said that I would play this on Saturday night, and I did.  Marvelous album.

Roger Waters  "Amused To Death"  Analogue Productions/QRP issue.  What an experience this album is.  The musical composition is quite interesting, but the sonics are out of this world.
@slaw  Steve, I'm glad that your replacement copy of Mayall & Friends "Along For The Ride" is a great one.  The music is fabulous and the SQ and total production, I found with my copy, is absolutely outstanding.  Really, one of the better sounding albums I own, no matter the price.  And again, the music is just fabulous.  Side B, cut 3, "If I Don't Get Home" is my favorite on the album.  I think now that it's destined to play later tonight.

Enjoy it in good health.
From yesterday and today...

Roxy Music  "Siren"
The Moody Blues  "On The Threshold Of A Dream"
The Moody Blues  "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour"
Leon Russell  "Will O' The Wisp"
John Mayall  "Blues From Laurel Canyon"
Toto  "Turn Back"
Stomo Yumashta Steve Winwood Michael Shrieve  "Go"

Mostly some familiar LPs, I just wanted that.  But the "Go" album, now that will take you to outer space!

A bit of a challenge to flip albums with this big bandage on my right hand.  And one-handed typing, too.  I take off the bandage this weekend and next Friday the stitches will be removed.  A few weeks of PT and I should be rockin' it.  Looking forward to Saturday night toke & vinyl...😊
@j_husker  Very glad that your surgery went well.  Stick with the PT procedure and you will get back 100%.  Enjoy the music, it does seem to aid in recovery.  I wish you the best.

My hand surgery also went well.  Though I am typing with only my other hand, pain is very minor and I am confident of a full recovery.  I have enough dexterity with my thumb and first 2 fingers available through the bandage that I will (carefully) get to playing vinyl later today.

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome @dredison  Yeah, that Phoebe Snow album is great.  She is great.  Stick around, you will greatly enjoy this thread.

George Benson  "Breezin"

Paul Simon  "There Goes Rhymin' Simon"

Both are period pressings, I have had since they were first released.  In perfect, NM condition.  Beautiful music...

OK, here I go.  Dinner, early to bed, early rise and off to hand surgery.  Damn, I am not looking forward to this.  Thanks everyone, for the kind words and well wishes.  I hope to be flipping vinyl in a few days.
Spent time on the home theater side last night.  Rented the blue ray disc of "Cruella".  On a Disney budget I expected it to be good.  It's a blast of a movie.  The music soundtrack is worth it alone.  I really enjoyed the movie and highly recommend it.  Good PG movie, no sex and no violence, just fun.

Some vinyl before bedtime...

Eurythmics  "Touch"  Annie Lennox is just so masterful with her voice.

The Doobie Brothers  "Livin' On The Fault Line"

Dire Straits  "Love Over Gold"

These are all original, period press issues.
Annie Lennox is phenomenal.  I'll search to find my copy of one of her albums to play tomorrow or tomorrow night.

Yeah Steve, a toke or two makes the music come to life on an entirely new level.  The layers, the depth, it's something I savor for on Saturday nights.
Hey, that's tomorrow night!  Can't wait...

On Monday morning I have a scheduled procedure for hand surgery.  I'm not yet sure just how that will impact my ability to flip LPs and/or for what duration of time.  I'll soon find out.  Saturday night will be a big "hoorah" for playing vinyl.  And of course, a toke or two😊

What did Jim say, this would be the next site for surgical procedures?
One thing is for sure, I will be healed and ready to buckle my boots in time for ski season.
George Benson  "In Flight"  He sure can play, and harmonize along with his guitar playing.  What a talent!

Heart  "Dreamboat Annie"  A classic, for sure.  Side 1 always gets the attention with the 2 radio hits on it.  Side 2, however, is wonderful.  And the bass on side 2 is fantastic.

E.L.O.  "Face The Music"  I think this is their best album.  Jeff Lynn was a master in making that band do what it did.

These are all period press issues.  And in NM, perfect condition.
Berlin  "Pleasure Victim"  Saw this on a previous post and, hey, I have that.  Have not listened to it for about 35 years, until today.

Marvin Gaye  "What's Going On"  Still plays true to the present times.

Rickie Lee Jones  "it's like this"  Analogue Productions, QRP 45 rpm.  SQ is excellent.  Songs are excellent.  I think that my favorite cover by her on this album is "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys".
I once saw Long John Baldry.  He is a very tall guy.  Great show!

@j_husker  Best to you on the knee surgery.  I have had 3 knee surgeries (twice on the left and once on the right), so I can identify with you.  As you likely know, be very good on your PT.  Work hard at it because you get out of it only from what you put into it.  Get back 100%.  And do enjoy the music.

Joe Cocker  "With A Little Help From My Friends"  early press, sounds rather good.

Katanga,  the Tone Poet issue.  So good, and from such a long ago recording.

Jennifer Warnes  "Famous Blue Raincoat"  inspired from being listed here, yesterday.  I bought this last year, released as a special Limited Edition of only 1,000 copies on Impex Records, made from Jennifer's personal master tape, on blue vinyl.  My copy is S/N: 0825/1000.  Man, is this good!
Tim,
Ride safely and have a wonderful time.
Enjoy the break, the breathtaking views, the serenity of it all.
Your music will be waiting for you.

I'm not certain if it were actually my speakers that were on display at Pacific Audio Fest.  If so, I was not advised of it, but I'll take the added hours for break-in.  Those are the very model though, for sure.  Apollo 11, V-3.  They are sounding quite nice today.  I can tell that from where they are, the break-in process will yield even more sonic bliss to come.  By light years, these are the best speakers in my life.  Today I blended some new ones that I just received along with those I have listened to recently.  The week ahead will be filled with hours of pleasure. 😊

Count Basie  -  Basie Jam   The double bass has never sounded so good on my system.  Just outstanding plucks of the strings, that just jumps out at you.

Jennifer Warnes  -  Famous Blue Raincoat   Impex reissue, Limited Edition 825/1,000.

The Oscar Peterson Trio  -  We Get Requests   Verve, Acoustic Sounds Series.

Michael Hedges  -  Aerial Boundaries   The speed of these speakers is lightning quick.  Michael Hedges snaps those strings, and they smack you in the face.

Loggins & Messina  -  Full Sail   Direct-Disc Labs, Super Disc.  I've had this since 1974.

Steely Dan  -  Everything Must Go   AP/QRP 45rpm.  These two Steely Dan reissues from AP/QRP recently are really something special.  The music is great, as is all Steely Dan.  The sonics are absolutely stunning.

Hey guys, my sister and brother-in-law now living at my house during their transition from Hawaii back to the mainland puts a hamper on my ability to have some quiet and quality listening time.  My sister, in particular, is a loudmouth and just won't shut up.  It is beyond annoying.  But I am doing the right thing in helping family.  Hopefully they will make their move (out of my house) in the next 1 to 3 weeks.  It's been a challenge.

Nevertheless, what I am doing is listening to a variety of albums that I have listened to most recently.  That provides me with the most recent memory of sound quality for those albums.  I am also looking to experience these speakers for human voice and wind/string instruments, wanting to hear truer tonal qualities.  I'll explore other music as I begin to get past those albums.  Yesterday I got in 3.

Phoebe Snow  -  Second Childhood

Eric Clapton  -  Unplugged

Jethro Tull  -  This Was

The new speakers, Daedalus Audio, model Apollo 11 V-3, out of the box are quite good and a step above my previous set of Dynaudio, Contour 60i.  Midrange and the top end are far more realistic sounding.  Female vocals are just so much more natural and acoustic guitar has much better natural tonal qualities.  The bass and mid bass, as expected, have a lot of breaking-in to go.  The warmth and depth in that frequency range is a bit strident and lacking the deeper frequencies.  But again, as expected.  Lou Hinckley (owner of Daedalus Audio) advised me that would be my experience.  He said that the mechanical break-in time for the drivers is north of 100 hours and for the crossover electronics and wiring loom is closer to 300 + hours.  I have a long way to go.  But honestly, I already hear a lot of what I was looking for in tonality.  And that's with just 1 1/2 hours of playing time.  Of course, I also have a lot of experimenting to do with placement.  My room doesn't allow for a great amount of change to positioning.  But even an inch or two this way, that way, etc. can make a difference.  I placed furniture glides/sliders under the footer spikes so I can make those changes more easily.  These speakers are large and are very heavy.  Those spikes and that weight on carpeting/padding, and down to the concrete floor makes for a much greater challenge to move than by having them on the sliders.  I lose some of the benefit of coupling to the concrete floor, but once I feel I have the best location the sliders will be removed, and the spikes coupling to the concrete floor should provide a bit more of an advantage.

I have good opportunity for several hours of listening time today.  I'll get back and offer some further information.  In addition to the sonics, these speakers are stunningly beautiful works of woodcraft art.  I mean, WOW, they are absolutely gorgeous.  I'll get pictures updated on my system page sometime soon.

The new 2022 version Apollo 11 V-3 is what I got.

They are run for a few hours at the factory.  I have the next 80 hours to get them going well and about 300 + hours to fully settle in the electronics.  It's a process.

I'm just about to fire up the first LP.  Drum roll...........

Hey guys, my speakers arrived (FINALLY!!!).  I'm setting them up today and will play a few albums later on.  I will be happy to report at that time😃

I had a similar experience with Folk Singer 45rpm that I bought from Acoustic Sound.  They handled the situation in the same manner.  I gave the "defective disc" to my brother-in-law.  His system is a decent mid-fi and the issue on the disc was no problem when played on it.  Acoustic Sounds and Elusive Disc are class act retailers.  At this point I have reservations about Music Direct.  They have always done me right but knowing now that they buried the DSD information with MoFi products (Music Direct owns MoFi and knows first-hand what was going on) has me thinking a little differently about them.

@bslon   Impex is one of the very best labels for producing superior quality products in materials and sonics.  Available now for pre-order is the new (from Impex) Patricia Barber album 45rpm 2-disc set, made in the 1Step format in the same packaging as Cafe Blue.  Expensive, but worth it!  I already have one on preorder.  I thought that you may want to know.

I agree that Gary Moore is underrated.  He is excellent!

Boz Scaggs, the album Dig, does have some really deep bass.  In fact, I am going to be using that in the mix for breaking the drivers on my new speakers.

Good news, FINALLY!!!   They are shipping to me from Ferndale, WA.  Should arrive somewhere between Friday and Tuesday.  I'll check the tracking on Wednesday as they just had the shipping label created today and are scheduled to be picked up at Daedalus Audio on Tuesday.

My sister and brother-in-law moved into my house 10 days ago.  Moving back to the mainland, from Hawaii.  My house is a transitional landing pad for them for about 2 months.  It's been hectic, not much vinyl spinning this last week.  Today was a relaxing day of a few albums (finally!).

Phoebe Snow  -  Second Childhood

Michael Franks  -  Tiger In The Rain

Dimeola/McLaughlin/DeLucia  -  Saturday Night In San Francisco   Impex issue, and it is quite spectacular.

I have experience with the box set.  It's a bit bright, at least it was on my system with my last turntable.  I have not yet played it on my Feickert/Kuzma/Soundsmith setup.  I will have to do that and get back to you.  The vinyl quality is excellent, but the mastering does sound a bit bright.  My original was given away many years ago because it was so thrashed.  Awesome high school years with that album, and great memories.  But it absolutely needed to be replaced.  I am glad to have this copy but would rather have paid for the album alone, not the entire box set with all of the CDs.  Although, the packaging is really awesome!  I do recommend getting a copy.  It's probably the best available.  Only if Analogue Productions does a true AAA reissue would I replace the new one that I have.

Kenny Burrell with Coleman Hawkins  -  Bluesey Burrell   I have played this a few times as of late.  It's really a great album.

Steely Dan  -  Two Against Nature   Got this last week, second time playing it.  AP/QRP new issue.  Makes the most out of your analog front end.  And excellent Dan music, too.

Iron Butterfly  -  In-A-Gadda Da-Vida   Got this last year, the MoFi reissue.  Lots of fun.  Brings back memories from 8th grade.  I saw these guys during my high school years, and really close to the stage.  Good memories.

My mistake, I also have a UHQR of Jimi Hendrix, Are You Experienced.  I hope that AP does some more UHQR issues.

A couple of classic jazz records.

Mingus  -  Ah Um   Music On Vinyl issue, and it is quite good.  Very quiet vinyl.

Miles Davis  -  Kind Of Blue   AP/QRP UHQR  33rpm.  AP really did an outstanding job with reinvigorating the UHQR process.  Pricey, but I hope they do a few more.  This copy is #1,177 and I believe they make 1,000 copies per stamper.  Thus, 177th copy from stamper #2.  My only other UHQR is from the original introduction in the early 1980s which was Mobile Fidelity and JVC (JVC had the vinyl formula and pressing process that was the UHQR technology).  I have a pristine copy of 'I Robot' that I bought when it first released.  I wish that I had bought more of those UHQRs.  I believe they made only 8 titles, and that was it.

Steve, try playing permanent hookie.  In other words, retiring from the workforce.  I was fortunate enough to be able to do that at 63.8 years of age (4 years ago).  Life is too short; I went through several injuries and rehabs and work was just getting in the way of living.  It was time for more skiing, hiking, fishing, and assembling the best high-fidelity system of my life.

That's my story and I am sticking to it!

Some albums are just meant to be played loud.  Some are meant to be played even louder😃  Unfortunately some recordings (poor SQ) require that you play them not so loud.

Count Basie  -  Basie Jam   I have all 3 of the Basie Jam series.  Haven't listened to this first one in a while.  It's awesome!

Cowboy Junkies  -  The Trinity Session   Got this two weeks ago, this is the second time to listen to it.  Really a great sonic experience and really a cool band.

Steely Dan  -  Two Against Nature   The new AP/QRP 45rpm issue.  All of Steely Dan music ranges from very good to fabulous.  This album is one of their better overall albums, musically, IMO.  The sound quality of this issue, however, is absolutely over the top.  It makes you grateful for having invested so much into an analog front end.  This is a go-to album and issue for showing someone just what your system has to offer.  Most highly recommended.  Still available at Acoustic Sound website.
