@hedgehog +1 on Robin Trower - For Earth Below OP.  One of my first records.  Very nice.

High Pulp - Mutual Attraction vol 3. (Live 45 EP)

Love their stuff.

I’m listening to Bill Evans, Live At Ronnie Scott’s.  Sheesh, I just realized that I have 35 Bill Evans albums.

I’m envious -He is the best.

Hey Steve.   Let us k ow how you like that John Doe Record.  Have my eye on it.

@boxer12 Re: the 2013 Snow Goose.  I reserve the option to add a more definite response when I’ve listened to it again but yes, I think so.  It definitely sounds more like a modern recording.  It’s not exactly the same music but it’s pretty close (weird thing really).   The original is an icon and one of my favorite albums.  I have 3 copies, the US OP, a US Reissue, and an early UK and all are, like Joel says, just ok productions. The UK is the dullest.   My US OP is best I think.  Been listening to it digitally for a long time as a result.

A good day of music Steve.

Pat Metheny Group - The Falcon And The Snowman
(Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)  1985 EMI OP

Did someone mention Dave Holland here recently (or was it on another thread)?   Man this is a great record.

I was referring to mono amps but I do agree with you on mono recordings James.

oh, i’m the disco king.  of course you meant your mono-block tube amps.

I agree Steve.  I don’t have a mono cart but mono records do have their own appeal.  I think they sound really good through my corner horns.

@boxer12 +1 on Camel Tim.  I just got the 2013 re-recording, slightly rearranged in places, of Snow Goose that Latimer did with his new friends.  An interesting artifact.

Mozart Complete String Quintets (Too difficult to spell the name of the Quintet performing) 1971 Telefunken (5 LP0 Box) Germany.  A very nice set.  The Quintets with the horns added are particular favorites.  I’m on the third of five discs making for a long lovely listen on a rainy day here.

@mammothguy54 That’s quite exciting news Joel. Please keep us posted.

The Modern Jazz Quartet Plays George Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess, 1965 Atlantic

@slaw Hey Steve. I finally got a spindle hole reamer: a Sable 33.33. Really nice gizmo to have around.

@ticat

Philip Glass- Koyaanisqatsi
Angby Kammakor - JEFTA Oratorium Carissimi  (Proprius)
D Levinson, M Levinson and B Elgart- Jazz at Long Wharf
David Sylvian (Jansen, Barbieri, Karen) - Rain Tree Crow
Ennio Morricone - The Mission
Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing
Maneige - Maneige

This was a most excellent set man.  Was bummed when my LRS sold out of the RSD Koyaanisqatsi.  I’ve streamed it several times though - its very cool.  As for the rest, all excellent selections.

@big_greg what a find. Crusaders we’re a great band. Joe Sample (May he RIP) one of the all time greats. In the 70s every decent high school stage band in America played their stuff - this included ours. Wayne Henderson was a idol of mine. You are so lucky to stumble on those test pressings. Love to hear that record sometime.

Astor Piazzolla - The American Clavé Recordings • 2022 Nonesuch (Germany)

This is really cool.  Beautiful music.  Arrived today.  Gave the first album of this three disc set another listen on the digital streamer earlier this evening, saving the record for a nightcap and comparison.  Of course the record gives so much more - that’s expected but in this case, wow, all the things I love about records are here on display.  Warmth, detail, tonal accuracy, liquid sweetness, natural overlapping of instruments, natural harmonics.  It sounds so real.  The digital version was exciting and conveyed the musical ideas but the record, wow, so much emotion.   If anyone who loves good music played this album on their home stereo without being moved I’d be really surprised.

@bslon hey Bro.   Didn’t know you were a fan of Jane - but of course you are.  I really like that band, not being afraid to display my love of prof stuff.   Very cool.

Hey @music_is_life welcome to THE thread.

The Delines - The Imperial

Schumann - The Symphonies • Paavo Järvi • Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen • 2018 • A production of the orchestra

Rush • Moving Pictures • 40th Anniversary • 2022 • Anthem

More clarity and air than other issues including the OP and the other DMM from a few years back. It’s still dry and a little dark, as it always was. This vinyl is not super quiet - no ticks or pops but the overall noise, like tape hiss, is apparent, which is not the case on my earlier version.

I’ve been discussing the 40th with my brother who’s a Rush enthusiast.  He thinks the 40th is the same master as the 2015 DMM.   This sounds better to me though even though the vinyl isn’t as quiet.   Further exploration required.

Eddie Higgins - You Don't Know What Love Is
2022 Reissue • Venus Records (Japan)

@reubent 40th Moving Pictures isn’t/wasn’t a Record Store Day title.   There are plenty left.   There are 3 (vinyl) versions.  1.  the record  2. A 4&1/2 side package with excellent bonus material (live) and some swag.  And 3, a super deluxe package with the records and seedees and extra souvenir type stuff.   I bought the first 2.

I had the FM Montrose and it was a good pressing. However, musically it just didn't move me. I wanted to like it and tried several times. But it never resonated with me, and off to the Plaid Room trade-in pile it went. Don't recall what I got in that particular trade, but I hope it was worth it...

ok Tom but you probably just didn’t play it loud enough…

Lightnin' Hopkins - Goin' Away

@slaw @big_greg

Can’t remember how many Friday Music lps I have but two that stand out are Kansas "Leftoverture" remastered by Joe and Kevin. "The Yes Album" 45 rpm box.

Friday Music Montrose is good    Better than the alternatives anyway.   I also have a FM Billy Cobham “Spectrum “ that if memory serves is pretty good.   The important thing is just to have these two records because the music is so exceptional.

Wow   This is a cello in the room recording of beautiful music.  Highly Recommended

@slaw

Wasn't there a band from the 90s called The Catherine Wheel?

Yes, I remember them from Napster download days because I always thought it was strange to name your band after a torture device….
