Just got in from a 4 day long weekend ski trip and found the LP "Underground Soul" from Houston Person was delivered while I was gone. (Thanks USPS). I found a nice original 1967 mono pressing on eBay and got it for a song IMHO. Anyway, put it on and was very impressed.
For any of you soulful jazz fans out there, Houston Person is THE man. Check out the song "Underground Soul" from his debut 1967 album or his solo on Joey DeFrancesco's - "Live at the 5 Spot" on "Moonlight in Vermont".
Great stuff......

@tomic601 - I agree.... Man ;~) |
Allan Holdsworth - "Metal Fatigue"
Again! Second time this week. I love this album. Heard it playing in a record store in Canton, Ohio sometime around 1985. Bought it on CD and have loved it ever since. Replaced the old CD with a nice used vinyl copy - April 2017. |
"Greetings From" - Timbuk 3 |
@spiritofradio - Never heard of it. I'll check it out..... |
@spiritofradio - Moxy! - Noboby listens to Moxy....... ;~) |
The Smithereens - "Especially For You" |
Robin Trower - "Long Misty Days"
|
photodusty,
I love "All This Useless Beauty". Great album. I just bought tickets to see Elvis Costello this summer on the "Imperial Bedroom and Other Chambers Tour". Can't wait. Got great seats. Just saw Elvis late last year at the Ryman Theater in Nashville. Almost Holy experience......

Paul Simon - "Still Crazy After All These Years" |
Just listened to side A of of disk 1 - The Beta Band - "Champion Versions"
Holy Cow! Great SQ on this first side. If the others are as good, this one is a winner...
|
Funny story. I heard "Moxy II" playing in a shopping mall Camelot Records Store back when it first came out in 1976. Never bought it, but remembered liking it. Years later I remembered it and started looking for a copy on vinyl (well before Al Gore invented the internet). Never found one. Finally, a few years ago I saw it available on CD and picked up a copy.
I didn't really remember why I liked it some much. It's enjoyable enough, but I can't figure out why the thought of it stuck in my mind for so many years. I think I'll give it a spin tonight to see if it does anything for me... |
The Beatles - Yellow Submarine - 1999 Remixed Songtrack LP. I just picked this up today, and I love it.
Try the remixed long version of "It's All Too Much". WOW!
|
James Mcmurtry and the Heartless Bastards - "Live in Aught Three"
|

@bdp24 ,
Thanks, I made a typo in my post. Of Course it is "Alone Together. The MCA Re-Issue is solid black. It does sound great. |
@slaw ,
Nope. My Yellow Submarine Songtrack LP is on heavy black vinyl. |
Moxy - "Moxy II" on the spinner now..... |
Steve Gibbons Band - "Down in the Bunker" |
@tomic601 - I don't have "Love Over Gold" on vinyl. BION, I've never hear the album, just "Industrial Disease". Headed to Spotify to stream it now. |
Went to my local record store today and picked up the following in the used bins:
Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver Gerry Rafferty - City to City Bruce Springsteen - Tunnel of Love
Paid $3.99 -$4.99 for each. All are in excellent condition and sound pretty fantastic. I've listened to them all this evening. I love my local record store......... |
Norman Greenbaum - "Spirit in the Sky" |
Gerry Rafferty - City to City |
Nazareth - "Close Enough for Rock 'n' Roll"
|
James Mcmurtry and the Heartless Bastards - "Live in Aught Three" .... Again. So Good.......
|
@slaw - The Jame McMurty record is a winner IMHO. I'm a huge fan of good Alt-Country and Americana and this one pushes those buttons.
I like "City to City". I'm not thrilled with the sound quality. It sounds a bit thin and the production is nothing special. However, I like the music very much, so I tolerate it.
Happy Weekend! |
On the TT tonight.....
Nils Lofgren - Acoustic Live - Analogue Productions Re-Issue - Nice!
Pete Townshend - White City - 1985 original pressing
Pete Townshend - Face The Face / Hiding Out 12" Single - This includes the extended live version of "Face the Face" from the short movie - White City
|
@slaw - I've got Ryan Bingham's - "Mescalito" on CD. I've only listened to it once, then put it on the shelf for a year or two. I'll try to re-visit it in the next couple of days and let you know what I think of it.
|
@slaw - Thanks for the reminder regarding Ryan Bingham. I played "Mescaline" last night and I'm listening to it again tonight. It's fantastic. Great Alt-Country/Americana. And the CD recording is very good. Right in my wheelhouse.....

It was just a Warren Zevon kind of night I guess..........
|
@bdp24 - Nope, never saw Dwight Twilley Band. But based on your description, I wish I had seen them....
|
Focus III - Cool stuff. Not quite sure what genre this falls in. Is it Prog, Fusion? Don't know, but I'm digging' it....
|
The Smithereens - Especially for You |
|
Uriah Heep - "Demons and Wizards" |
Finished up all 3 EPs (4 disks) from The Beta Band - "The Three E.P.'s". Sound quality is excellent. Vinyl and packaging is beautiful, but there are a couple of noisy spots in the vinyl of the second EP. I may try cleaning again to see if it gets better. For me, content of the first EP is better than the next two. The second EP is mostly filler IMHO, with the exception of "She's the One" which is a great song. I'll give it a try again soon to see if my opinion changes.
|
Joe Jackson - Night and Day |
@pgk1 - Welcome to the "What's on your Turntable tonight?" thread. Keep 'em coming........ |
What's on my turntable "this morning"?
I'm auditioning a couple of audio components, so I pulled out a couple of high quality records for the initial auditioning.
Huge Masekela - Hope
I played the Analogue Productions 180Gr 45 rpm double LP. Of course, it sounds excellent. Really one of the finest sounding LPs I've heard. And musically - the band was spot on.
Dave Mason - Alone Together
I played the 1995 MCA Heavy Vinyl Remaster. Very nice. Great album and this LP is a very nice version of it. Found a new copy in the bin at Half Price Books. It was a great find.....
