@reubent I’m sure you’ve checked the usual online sources - looks tough.  Called our LRS and they’re also out.   If you haven’t already, ask plaid room if they have a scratch and dent copy.  I’ve got a couple of RSD titles that way.

@slaw glad to hear it Steve.

@bkeske That Mendelssohn one of my favorites.  I have 2 or 3 different versions including the film score from the Woody Allen movie (which is excellent).  Do you have a favorite version?

@bslon

Covet, interesting sound James. I’d not heard the term Math Rock before.

yeah, I’m often met with blank stares or laughter when I use the term….

it’s a fairly recently evolved form of progressive rock

My favorite Math Rock bands are Plini (genius Eastern European fellow plays all the instruments on his records, incredible guitar player, influential, tip of the spear stuff) , Covet (discussed above), and Polyphia (two/twin? very fast but musical guitarists).   Check them out if you don’t know them.  They’ll keep you young.

another absolutely awesome band that’s sometimes described as math rock but also as jazz rock is Volto.  They made, I think, one of the best instrumental albums of all time.

@slaw   Covet is fantastic. 3 virtuosos playing highly melodic math rock. Progressive rock with a certain tone using a lot of notes. One of my other favorite math rock artists is Plini, whom I’ve posted about many times here.

Covet’s guitarist is a Japanese American woman music professor who decided she wanted to record and tour instead. Extremely talented and beautiful melodic tunes. No vocal (a plus!).

unfortunately, the sq on the record is not very good. It it’s great music. Check it out.

@slaw

How do you like Sound & Fury? Never streamed it but it intrigues me.

Hey Steve, apologies - just saw this. Hope you’re doing ok.

I like it but I can’t play it when my wife is home. Although it has some elements of country it’s also very angry hard rock - which is uniquely done sound wise (it’s kinda all about the sound and not the songs really). So, it’s pretty different from both the Sailor record (horrible SQ on that one) and the Meta Modern Sounds record (better sq).

my younger Daughter is friendly with Paco, the guy who helped SS mix Sound & Fury. She told me recently that SS plans to front a band and make another loud rock album but under the band’s name and not under his own.

Beautiful.   Looks like a very nice set.  What do you think about the SQ?

@tgilb

Difficult to think what path King Crimson would have taken had Greg Lake not left for ELP but I’m glad he did as I enjoy the journey that both bands took.

Really interesting speculation

@slaw take care of yourself bro.  Vitamin D, Zinc first few days, Lots of Vitamin C all the way through.  Push the liquids.  Even when you’re not feeling thirsty.  Hope it doesn’t hit you too hard.  It shouldn’t at this stage. Hoping for the best for you.

@reubent Wow, sounds bad.   What a hassle.  Hope you can stay cool and get service back quickly.

@curiousjim 👍 The Resonance issues are (most all) fantastic aren’t they.  Do you have “Some Other Time” too.  I think it’s my favorite of the Resonance issues.

@curiousjim great to see you back on the thread.   I remember that you’re a big fan of Bill Evans.  have you heard the new “Spring”?

@td_dayton

A great record that I have always felt was under appreciated. Lo and behold, it got the repressed by Craft this year. My OG sounds amazing so not likely to toss $40 down for the remaster, but glad it is out there.

@j_husker It might be worth it.  I just got it yesterday and it sounds very good at 45.   I don’t have the original though, just digital.

This is Grace from the Friday Music team. Thanks so much for reaching out! Unfortunately, we are not able to disclose the process of how our albums are remastered. I apologize for the inconvenience, please let us know if you have any other questions or if we can do anything else to assist you!

Best,

Hey there Gents. I saw today that Friday Music is taking pre-orders for a new “remastered” reissue of Dave Mason’s solo debut “Alone Together”. I had thought that all the master, etc., tapes of Dave’s work went up in flames. Does anyone know the source of this new issue?  I’m guessing digital files but don’t know for sure. I emailed Friday Music but don’t expect to hear back from them until next Friday.

"J. J. In Person!" The J. J. Johnson Quintet. A nice-sounding Columbia six-eye that I picked up for next to nothing

I’m envious

@chester_bunger +1 Saw them this week in Portland.  Great show.  Gavin was most excellent and an inspiration.

@carlsbad Physics at Chicago: Now that’s legit.  I was at the GSB in 84 & 85.  Physics.  Cool.   Can you help me with my turntable arm…?

Burgers by Hot Tuna. Simply fantastic album recording. Water Song is the pinnacle but Sunny Day Strut is probably better. The whole album just works and flows seamlessly. It really is a wonderful production. I also just love the album art and the photograph on the back side. It just reflects happiness in the moment of a wonderful era.
