Surgery went well, the well wishes are much appreciated, this group is awesome! With ice on the knee and Oxy onboard the music selections for tonight seemed obvious: Grateful Dead-Blues For Allah 2019 Mofi 45rpm Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert-1973 RSO New dust cover and hinges arrived for the KD650 today, guess I'm keeping it. |
Just arrived- Jackie McLean-Destination…Out! 2022 BN Boz Scaggs-Down Two Then Left 1977 Col The KD650 and the MP-200 seem to be getting along well. I’m curious how my beloved Grado would sound on it, but can’t get myself to take the purple wonder off. Lucky for me I’ll have plenty of down time the next few days as I’m having yet another knee surgery tomorrow morning. Good news is I have a punch card at the Ortho and this one is free ;) |
@bkeske not familiar with the belt drive KD series, but I know the direct drive stuff is awfully good. I’ve owned a number of dd tables, Pioneer, Sony, Dual etc. So far this block of artificial granite is my favorite. Joni Mitchell-Court and Spark 1980 Nautilus RE The Band-Rock of Ages 2012 Mofi RE

“The Rock” tables are very rare around here and I couldn’t let this one pass by. It’s a beast for sure. Needed a new dust cover and hinges, and a decent power cord. Had a 681eee on it, which sounded fine but NOT mp-200 fine. In the process of integrating it I decided to try it hooked to the MA-352 onboard MM phono card before running it through the Channel Islands PEQ. A bit shocked honestly. The MA-352 phono stage is probably decent by most standards but I was instantly reassured of just how effing good the CIAudio is. Jerry Garcia-Garcia (Compliments) 1974 Round Records |
@spiritofradio thanks, I'm proud of my humble collection. Last one of the night: Steely Dan-Gaucho 1980 MCA Japan press |

I know I've seen pics posted of it. Send me a PM please if this is you. Thanks |

Pink Floyd-The Final Cut 1983 Col Funny about this record. I was in high school when it came out. My gf at the time used to listen to it nearly every night as we talked on the phone. Used to give her a hard time about it, I’ve never acknowledged it as a Floyd album. A year later Roger’s solo record “The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking” came out. Told ya Janelle, Final Cut is a Waters solo album. Either way, with the lights off and only the glow of a single candle and a pair of blue meters in the room, it sounds awfully good to my ears. I hope you are doing well these days Janelle, wherever you are. |
The Bud Powell Trio-Bouncing With Bud 2015 Storyville 180g RE Regarding the 80’s new wave stuff, if I may chime in. Worked at record stores and radio stations for a numer of years late 80’s into early 90’s. Most of that stuff has lost its appeal to me, but occasionally I spin early REM, Echo & the Bunnymen, Roxy/Ferry, New Order. Some of the obscure stuff. I can’t stomach the Duran Duran, Fixx, Flock of Seagulls…pop new wave from that era. |
@femoore12 Local Hero is one of my “go to” records that I put on when I can’t figure out what I want to listen to! I need to upgrade to that 1/2 speed mastered version one of these days. Genesis-The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway 1974 ATCO “Porky/Pecko” press |
I have played with the idea of a mono cart for a while now, but I keep fighting off the urge. My Linn TT obviously doesn’t have removable headshell so it would be a pretty serious rabbit hole. Miles-Someday My Prince Will Come 1961 6 eye. This copy has been in the family since new. PVF cleaned this past summer. Fantastic. |
Dire Straits-Dire Straits 2021 Rhino RE Beatles-The Beatles & Esher Demos Box 2018 Apple RE Any “system synergy” naysayers are welcome to stop by and give a listen to my rig. The ATVM740ml is $55 more than the Grado Opus3, and sounds half as good on my system. Side note, the MA352 is everything I had hoped and more. |
Garcia Live Vol. 14-2020 Round Records Dexter Gordon-A Day in Copenhagen 2021 MPS Little Feat-Electrif Lycanthrope 2021 RSD Yup, I stood in line this cold morning to get the Feat RSD release. Came home after work to clean and play it only to find disc one is warped. Not so bad it affects play, but still, kinda bummed. On the other hand, this Dexter record is great! Never heard of MPS before, but they did a fantastic job with this one. |
@sbank love that McMurtry record! but I am also in a never ending search for a vinyl copy. Feat-Time Loves a Hero 2018 Speakers Corner Feat-Hoy Hoy Hoy 1981 WB Big Star-#1 Record 2020 Craft Recordings |
Did a lot of work in the listening room today, and got to spin quite a bit of vinyl: Floyd-Momentary Lapse 2021 45rpm RE Miles-Round About Midnight 2021 Speakers Corner The Band-The Band 2015 RE Coleman Hawkins-And Confreres 2012 45rpm AP Mounted the Opus3 on the Linn to see how that pairs with the new MA352. The low freq are so much better with that cart than the vm740 I have been listening to, but it gives up just a scoche in detail. |
@tomic601 This is the slow time at my shop, which works out well for me and my bird dogs. Usually get 50-60 days afield in 3 or 4 different states every winter. That and music are my therapy. Waiting for me when I got home from KS was a FedEx package containing one of tonight's listens: Miles Davis All Stars-Walkin 2021 ERC Comparing this press to my previous favorite, the 1976 Japan reissue. As one might expect the ERC is VERY detailed, but to my ears the most impressive aspect of this new pressing is the complete absence of noise. Jimmy Smith-Back at the Chicken Shack. 2021 BN |
