@bkeske Enjoying the Dead album art. I was late to the band having got turned on to them from the Freaks and Geeks show.

Porcelain Raft ‎– Strange Weekend (Secretly Canadian 2012)

Seismic bass and spacial vocals. Wonderful.
Lots of records all day today.
So I added a vintage all tube rectified and  regulated power supply to my Croft phono amp. Basically replaced the HT power transformer and cheap rectifier diodes with the output from a high-quality lab supply.
@tomic601 I'm going to add a DPDT switch so I can switch between both supplies. I'll then get a better perspective. It's interesting. Changing the power tubes makes huge differences to the presentation. It's a definite improvement in some areas - more holographic, more texture and authority. The downside seems to be a muddling of bass/ drums on more complex material.
Lotte Lenya ‎– September Song And Other American Theatre Songs Of Kurt Weill (Columbia Masterworks 1958 mono)

David Whitfield ‎– Alone (London 1961)

Fine English tenor. Passed at 54 from a brain hemorrhage.
Marty Robbins ‎– Just A Little Sentimental
(Columbia 1961 mono)

What a voice. And the SQ is so... musical. Magic.

@slaw Interested in your Pods outcome. As you know, I’m a big fan of Nobsound springs with sets under everything (turntable, tube phono, tube power supply, tube pre, tube power amps) except speakers with very good results.

Bix Beiderbecke - The Bix Beiderbecke Story: Volume 2, Bix And Tram (Columbia 1952 mono)

@slaw Thanks for the update.  Glad to hear there's an improvement.  IIRC, you had single large open springs. Ever tried the Nobsound pods?

Doc Evans – At The Gas Light (Audiophile 1967)

Stunning SQ. Recommended.

Marcy Lutes – Debut (Decca 1957 mono)

Thanks @boxer12  Subtle changes... but faster, better color, more realistic soundscape. You know how it goes.

Spent a few hours rewiring the connection from the vintage tube power supply to the preamp. (Basically, it replaces the sand diodes) Replaced plain old stranded with 12gauge OCC in Teflon. It’s almost coat hanger stiff and difficult to work with. Also used 16gauge in the B+ feed. Nice improvement.

Doc Evans / Knocky Parker / Albert Nicholas / Earl Murphy / Gene Juckem – Reminiscing In Dixieland, Stomps And Blues Vol. 1 (Audiophile 1959 mono)

Earlier.

Robin Williamson ‎– Winter's Turning
(Flying Fish 1986)

Back to the Celts.
Sylvia Woods ‎– The Harp Of Brandiswhiere (Tonmeister 1982)

More Celtic harp for the day that's in it.
@bkeske Interesting to see you experiment with tubes. Also makes me nostalgic for when I started doing the same thing back in the 80s! I’m still messing around with them!
@tomic601 Re the phono psu: Replaced the aging rectifier tube with a new 5AR4 which tightened and cleaned up the bass, and improved image and stability. Gonna replace the ancient 6SJ7 driver tube tomorrow.
