So weird thing happened with Herman’s Hermits album. I played it on the 9" Decca Gold fine. I replayed it on the 12" SuperGold. Every now and again, it would jump a few grooves. I checked stylus, cleaned, checked VTF. Tried different VTA. Up close the stylus vibrates visibly and jumps the groove as if it was hitting a compliance resonance peak. It’s just this record though. No visible warp. Any ideas?
Marty Robbins ‎– Just A Little Sentimental (Columbia 1961)

This should be in your Mom's collection. Guy singing old songs. Good voice. Great voice, like a country music cross between Elvis and Chris Isaak. Crystal clear recording. Barber store quartet backing singers. What more could you want? I blame the Garrard/Decca for bringing these oldies to life.
@slaw I figured it was a better investment than the bank!

I’m thinking Panzerholz and moving coil as new avenues of exploration.
Anyone have experience of it as a plinth material? Clearaudio use a aluminum/PHz/aluminum sandwich.

@noromance

12” vs. 9” too…?

@spiritofradio I know there are differences but I move things around a bit and am used to the differences. The cartridge difference surpasses the arm length and the phono stage. Thanks.

Bobby Dukoff His Tenor Sax And His Orchestra With The Ray Charles Chorus – Sax In Silk (RCA Victor 1956 mono)

Cris Williamson ‎– The Changer And The Changed (Olivia 1975)

Sort of a Carole King effort. Not bad.
Tom Waits ‎– Frank’s Wild Years (Island 1987)

Bought this the day it came out. A masterpiece. Ruined only by poor sound quality.
Tom: I want a murky sepulchre of sodden sadness.
Sunset Recording: Hold my beer.
@slaw
Jerry Jeff Walker met a man in jail who used the name Bojangles (as many black men who danced were known by.) Inspired him to write the song.
I remember where I heard the other version. Check out this treat.

Slaw, I have Mr. Bojangles on Harry Nilsson and Dave Bromberg albums. Great song. I made some notes on it in a previous post. I know I've another version but can't remember!
Jane Morgan ‎– The Second Time Around (Kapp 1961)

The dame’s got pipes. Don't know why but she sounds so great tonight. Greater voice definition and insight. Instuments that I wasn't aware off, warm and emotional.
The The ‎– Mind Bomb (Epic 1989)

Essential album. This actually gave me tinnitus.
The Black Swans ‎– Don't Blame The Stars (Misra 2011)

I like this record. Sparse and comforting. It grows on you.
Recommended.
I received my @tomic601 care pack today. It's a buzz getting records in the mail.

First up:
The New England Conservatory Ragtime Ensemble, Scott Joplin: The Red Back Book (Angel 1973 RE 1979)

This is interesting in that it's a 45rpm and don't they tell you on every surface! Clean amd in mofi inner. I didn't clean it. Sounded fine. NM/NM. Musically, a little poppy for me but decent enough. SQ very good. Not sure it was better for being on 45.
Second up:
So I have this already. Mine is an original on flimsy vinyl. This appears to be a later re-release on stiffer plastic. Clean with mofi inner. Didn’t clean. NM/VG+. Mild warp. Very quiet record. Sounded very good. For fun, I played my copy. It’s crazy how much better originals sound. Cleaner, louder and airier. BUT mine is VG; plays fine but noisy. So, I ended up playing the album and really enjoying the silent grooves, and despite SQ being a little woody and transistory, I heard stuff missing in the rice crispies of my original.

Nilsson ‎– Son Of Schmilsson (RCA Victor 1972 [RE year unknown])

Many thanks.

Bridget Saint John ‎– Songs For The Gentle Man (Trading Places 1971)

She's the one who sings on the Kevin Ayres' song; The Oyster and the Flying Fish.

Led Zeppelin - Untitled (IV) (Atlantic 1972 [RE 1971])

Do not buy digital remasters. #always70s
Billie Preston - Wildest Organ In Town! (Capitol 1966 [RE year?])

The other care bear album is a Billie Preston organ rock out. While I’m not a big fan of the Hammond sound at 8am, unless it’s on a Leonard Cohen album, the drums and bass are awesome. I’ll save the other side for the other rig with the sub. Thanks again for the fun.
@tomic601
Logged on to check in as I was otherwise engaged.
So sorry on your old pal's passing. We had a lab as part of our family. Lived 17 years. The only time I saw my father weep.

The Milk Carton Kids – Monterey (Anti- 2015)

@slaw recommended this last week so I bought it. He's right. I’m gonna second that rec.

Keys Of Life - Piano Music From Celestial Harmonies (Celestial Harmonies 1986)

Jim and Tim, I rarely recommend the Decca. It’s fussy about tonearms. I also think it works best on an idler but that could be my bias. It also works best into a good tube phono amp. My SG has a John Wright fitted Paratrace stylus and a Decapod enhanced body. It’s damn good. But, what do I know? I don’t have a good MC to compare it to. All I know is it makes exquisite music.

The Black Heart Procession ‎– One (SDRL Records 2016 LE White[1998])

Saw them perform this album live. Very special gig.

Miami Chamber Trio - S/T (Audiophile 1977)

Good binaural recording which makes it a good listen.

Lana Cantrell - The Now Of Then ! (RCA 1969)

Another Mr. Bojangles version on this.
She’s got something attractive that compels a spin. Smokey voice. An Oz-Broadway Marlene D.
Porcelain Raft ‎– Strange Weekend (Secretly Canadian 2012)

Nice to hear this on the other rig. Nicely mixed wall of sound with a lot of beauty and nuance.

@reubent  +1 Billy Bragg. I meant to play it tonight. Gave it a new outer sleeve an' all.

Holly Golightly And The Brokeoffs – Nobody Will Be There (Damaged Goods 2011)

Gene & Debbe – Hear & Now (TRX 1968)

Seth Austen – The Road O’er The Rainbow (Banish Misfortune Records And Publications 1981)

I love this thread and all posters
@slaw You drinking again? Kidding. Back at you, man!

Jody Miller – Queen Of The House (Capitol 1965)

Sweet kid with fab voice. Kinda Skeeter Davis. Perfect early Sixties music.

Susan Pillsbury – Susan Pillsbury (Sweet Fortune 1973)

A gem of an album.

Thanks @slaw
Seems to be only on CD/digital.
I tend to be old fashioned and stick with originals where possible.
Various ‎– The Festival Tapes Recorded Live In Telluride - June 25-26,1977 (Flying Fish 1978)

What a NM+ treat. Live and atmospheric.
Morning - Morning (Liberty 1970)

NM.  Sweet enough recording. Archetypal American music of the time replete with "do di do do di do" chorus lines.
Saint-Saëns ‎– Greatest Hits
(Columbia Masterworks ‎1970)

Sounds great. Actually, very enjoyable.
The Incredible String Band ‎– Wee Tam
(4 Men With Beards 2011 RE [1968])

180g RE (RM?) Sounds very clean. I have the Elektra WT and TBH double UK version. I must directly compare the SQ.
@bkeske Wee Tam and the Big Huge was released in Europe as both a double LP and separate LPs in 11/68 by Elektra. In the US, they were released separately.
180g RE (RM?) Sounds very clean.
@bkeske I was only wondering if the 180g 4 Men With Beards version was RM!
Sammy Davis Jr./Carmen McRae ‎– Porgy And Bess (Decca 1959)

Magic. VG unfortunately but sounds great.
The Incredible String Band ‎- Changing Horses (Elektra 1969)

Worth it if only for the momentous 16 minute epic Creation.
