@bkeske congrats! The Belles stuff is so beautiful. Hope to hear some of it someday!

Jaco Pastorius-Jaco Pastorius 1976 Epic

Carlos Santana-Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles! Live! 1972 Col

Love Santana, seen him live several times and the performance with Buddy is excellent. The sq on this record leaves much room for improvement though. Has anyone heard the Speakers Corner remaster?

Henry Mancini-Breakfast At Tiffany's (Music From The Motion Picture Score)1961 RCA Victor Mono

Not my usual cup of tea, but another very nice piece from my F-i-L’s collection. He is very old, very ill and on borrowed time. Years ago him and my M-i-L were stunning ball room dancers and would take over the dance floor at wedding receptions and gatherings. Listening to this brings back some great memories.

@scottya118 Love Freddie, good one!

Dug this one out and dusted it off:

Vangelis - China = 中國 1979 French Polydor

Tower Of Power-Tower Of Power 1973 WB

Initially started the evening with Zep In Through the Out Door from the box set, made it less than 8 minutes. I try to listen to LZ vinyl occasionally but find I just don’t enjoy it any more. Probably the worst sounding vinyl I own-and I own a fair amount of Zep. Never heard a Classic Records Quiex Zeppelin, would like to someday.

Just arrived today:

Bud Powell-Time Waits (The Amazing Bud Powell) 2022 BN Classic

Milt Jackson With John Lewis, Percy Heath, Kenny Clarke, Lou Donaldson And The Thelonious Monk Quintet 2022 BN Classic

On an unrelated note, I have this thing for lp box sets. Call it a fetish, call it a character flaw. Either way I look in my collection and around the room and there’s an over abundance of them. Most are unopened. Struggling with the decision to sell, or bust em open and spin them.

@slaw probably still three weeks out. He’s very busy!

I’m casually shopping for a cart for the new arm. Jeff said the Nag would be fine, but suggested a few if I wanted to try something different.

Miles-Seven Steps To Heaven 2017 Analogue Productions

Ordered an Audiomods arm for the KD-650. I know we all say it, but this could be the one that sticks around for a good long time.

Hubbard/Turrentine-In Concert 1974 CTi (RVG)

Been too long since I spun this. A record I consider the “Kind of Blue” of funky jazz. Someday I’ll spring for the Vol 1&2 from Speakers Corner, but for now I’ll just keep enjoying the hell outta this OP.

System is sounding really nice tonight. Hope everyone has a fantastic Friday.

Cold and rainy here, going to get a few hours of very enjoyable listening tonight starting with this gem:

Bill Evans-You Must Believe In Spring 1981 WB

Followed by:

Lou Donaldson-Lou Takes Off 2010 BN/Music Matters 45rpm

Charles Lloyd-Manhattan Stories 2021 RSD Resonance Records (KPG*)

Charles Lloyd-Forest Flower 2016 Speakers Corner

Bill Evans-At The Montreux Jazz Festival 1968 Verve

Gyorgy Cziffra-Liszt-Rapsodies No 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5. La Voix De Son Maītre (EMI)      Mono

Grateful Dead-Skull and Roses 1971 OG WB

Got some surface noise and a few thousand spins on it, but I still enjoy the heck out of it. Wharf Rat and Not Fade Away never disappoint. Was fortunate to see both of these songs performed live quite a few times. Great memories!

Followed by:

Saunders/Garcia-Live At Keystone 1973 Fantasy Records

Wife had an outpatient surgical procedure this morning so I took the day off to keep an eye on her. She slept most of the day, so I spun records:

Dead-Go To Heaven 1980 Arista

Dead-For The Faithful 1984 Pair Records

Jerry-Run For The Roses 1982 Arista

Dead-From the Mars Hotel 1974 GD Records

Twas a good day!

I’m a bit puzzled by the removed posts too, guess we’ll never know.

Also inspired by this thread to replace my OP of Laid Back with the new AP. Supposed to be here tomorrow. Until then:

Miles Davis All Stars-Walkin 2021 ERC RE

@bkeske I’ve been doing the same upgrading with many of my records as well. Swapping OP stuff with newer “audiophile” pressings when it is reasonable to do so. Matter of fact, listening to this recently upgraded disc right now:

Herbie Hancock-Head Hunters 2021 Analogue Prod RE

Which will be followed by:

Donald Byrd-Places and Spaces 2021 Blue Note

Coltrane-A Love Supreme 2021 Acoustic Sounds Impulse RE.

Chad gets 5 stars for this one. One of my top 3 from last year.

Supertramp-Breakfast in America 2018 Mofi

While this pressing is noise free, every time I play it I’m glad I paid the $35 retail for it new. One of the few cases where the OG record is noticeably better than the Mofi (in my opinion).

Walter Bishop, Jr.'s 4th Cycle-Keeper Of My Soul 2021 Real Gone Music

Fantastic record in every sense, highly recommended.

Busy weekend, but back in the listening room spinning vinyl.

Grateful Dead-What a Long Strange Trip it's Been 1977 WB RE

@slaw I’ve been eyeballin that Delaney & Bonnie Speakers Corner, how is it?

Dexter Gordon-Doin’ Allright 2009 Music Matters 45rpm RE

Soul Superflys are pretty well dialed in now. Dexter sounding so sweet.

Tonight I have the pleasure of comparing the 2022 AP version of Miles’ Someday My Prince Will Come to the 1961 OG copy from my Father-in-law’s collection.

My findings are as follows:

The Analogue Productions 2022 disc is obviously much quieter and mixed really “smooth” for lack of a better word. It is extremely easy to listen to.

My 1961 copy does contain a few pops and clicks, although not bad at all considering the age. This record to me sounds a little more raw, the bass notes are not as smooth as the new one, but they do seem to have more oomph to them.

I think I’ll keep them both.

Mark Knopfler-Local Hero 1983 OG WB

This is certainly not an "audiophile" remaster, but I am really enjoying this record that I have heard many many times. I don't think its anything unforgiving as much as it is more enjoyable to listen to better pressings that accentuate these speakers resolution.

Little Feat-Time Loves A Hero 2018 Speakers Corner RE

Without getting into a long, wordy review of the Zus, I'll touch on what I perceive as the finer points of my findings.

The speakers that I have owned or auditioned in my return to hifi in the last few years have been normal efficiency and pretty neutral-ADS, Audiovector, B&W, Maggies...These Souls are anything but normal or neutral! Resolution is like nothing I've heard. Like all the reviews say, they are "lively" without being harsh or fatiguing. Only downside I can find so far is that they do tend to make me not want to listen to some of my older, original pressings and favor audiophile remasters.

Been having a blast today playing with placement of the Soul Superflys.

I did a thing today.

@Whoopycat here on agon had his Zu Soul Superflys listed in the classifieds. Turns out he’s 2 hours from me! I met him half way and did the deal. Now time to see if I fall into the “love em” or “hate em” Zu club.

Got an email today with tracking for the Art Blakey-Live in Scheveningen 1958 from The Lost Recordings label. Ordered this a while ago and I had forgotten about it. Pumped to get that spinning when it shows up! Acoustic Sounds shows it as backordered right now, so they had more pre-orders than they could fill. Glad I got in on that!
