Franck Symphony in D Minor Eugene Ormandy Conducting The Philadelphia Orchestra CBS Records, Early 80s Reissue |
@mammothguy54, 10cc "The Original Soundtrack" I saw this album posted here last week. I always wanted it and never did buy it when current. So, I looked on Discogs and found a really good deal ($11) for a M- copy that is a UK pressing. Sounds quite good, and a great album. So good to get ideas from this thread. So many associations to this band and this record in particular. But I will just say, “I’m not in Love” wow, back in the day did you ever realize how incredible the sonics were? I sure didn’t. I had a suitemate and pal in college used to play this record all the time but I never realized. Incredible really. Great record. 10cc Deceptive Bends OP |

Aimee Mann album is very good. SQ over streamer has nice presence and tone. Vinyl will be even better. |
@reubent Nice score Tom! I still have my DD going in my second system. One of Steve’s mats might be a good tweak. Interested to know what you think of the sound. |
Marcy Lutes – Debut (Decca 1957 mono) Arrangements by Gil Evans. Very cool. |
Aimee Mann Queens of the Summer Hotel (On the streamer)
Pre-ordered record due out January 21st. |
@jerryg123, that will give the system a good workout. Dig that record man. Good to have you posting here. |
David Crosby Here If You Listen
This album features Becca Stevens, my current major music crush, and the Lighthouse Band. Amazingly good SQ. It has that modern refined digital production sound but I really like it. |
@slaw
Steve, if you do subscribe to a streaming service do yourself a favor and get a dedicated streamer and take the computer/phone/tablet out of the chain. No hope of music sounding very good unless you do. I mean, even with a good DAC. |
@Boxer12, Hey Tim! I saw Marissa Nadler perform here in one of our medium sized venues just prior to the lockdown. She was really good at using electronics. Loops and effects. I guess she’s almost famous. |
@mammothguy54, Thanks for the evaluation of “MLOR”. Was probably maybe going to get it anyway but that was just the encouragement I needed. Hope for a good 4 sides.

Thanks Steve, I ordered the new AO too.

Welcome @audiowave,
Bo Hansson. Far out. I’d forgotten about that record. |

Re: Crooked Still
Thanks! i did see that but have the single disc on vinyl (it’s ok I think ) and right now can’t convince myself I need the “b” sides, etc. If you get it please let us know about how you like the extra material.

@boxer12 Cool. Thanks. I think I had this one from a Napster download. |
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here

|
@boxer12,
Thanks for the recent reminder. Isn’t this quite different style music than on (at least some) of their other albums? I sure like it. Musical Irony? |
Lambchop Nixon (streamer)
this is great |
Is there an individual record you would pay $500 for? Electric Recording Company maybe? An OP RCA? A Beethoven Concerto? A Pink Floyd Record? Never say never but really…

Joel, That is a record to be treasured. I only wish I’d made MOFI, et. al. more of a priority during my life. Still somewhat playing catch-up on long wished for records but coincidental to the vinyl frenzy I’m now priced out of many of them. I do need more focus when it comes to record acquisition and friends here on the thread certainly help with that. Do especially enjoy finding bargains but of course that’s getting harder all the time along with the exponential growth in prices. Can’t say enough how much Paul Simon’s music has meant to me. However much I loved TGRS as a kid I don’t think I realized just how good it sounds. I mean, Something So Right” one of the best test tracks you might imagine and it’s on a very commonly owned album. |

@bkeske, Thanks. Been diggin Monty Alexander lately. |
@bkeske, Monty Alexander, Ray Brown, & Herb Ellis - Overseas Special. Recorded live at the Satin Doll Club, Tokyo, Japan, March 1982. Concord Jazz 1984 Some really great players. How does it sound? |
@sbank, thanks for the info. Listening to Circles on Amazon right now. Nice! I second this. Circles is great stuff. A vinyl copy is on the way to me. |
@bkeske, yes. I think you’d like it. You’re probably already familiar with the composer but I might describe this piano work as heavily influenced by Beethoven and also sounds kind of like Chopin. It’s not an expensive issue, has a great cover, decent (but not stellar) SQ, and it’s very nice, rather energetic but symmetrical music. |
+1 Joel. How would you characterize the sound of the MOFI? OP sounds pretty good to me, if maybe a little bright in the style of the time. It’s a great record. I hear so much in it. |

Charlie / No Second Chance +1 on Charlie @bslon, I don’t have “No Second Chances” but I’ve had “Lines” since it came out in the late 70s. Shame we can’t post/share photos of album covers on here. An interesting band. Way softer music than the rest of my records to that point but there was something about them that appealed. *. *. *. * The Nels Cline Singers Share The Wealth |

Agree, Boomtown really captured the age… I agree, vis-a-vis LA particularly. The lyrics on that record can be truly depressing. |
Gustav Mahler Symphony No. 3 Kubelik Choir and Symphonie-Orchester Des Bayerischen Rundfunks
Repeat from last night listen. Have to admit I was too worn out and sleepy to appreciate it so revisiting this morning. Do yourselves a favor sometime and set aside an hour and a half for an attentive listen to this. Listening through to when the final (adagio) movement transports can be one of life’s blessings and rewards. |

Ah, didn’t realize your amp was that powerful. Good luck and have fun with the setup. Those are beautiful speakers. |
+1 on “Fragile” Steve. My copy is one of my treasures. I feel like I have to save it for when I really need to give myself a treat. You know what I mean? |
@bkeske, have you tried setup (finding the best center) playing mono recordings? I’m curious about the power needs of the treos. Will you need a bigger amp?

@noromance It's A Beautiful Day – Marrying Maiden (CBS 1970) Love that band. Don’t have that one. Need to seek it out. |

Not too fancy. Lush. Rich. Romantic I suppose. Menuhin was quite a guy.
