Grateful Dead - Workingman’s Dead. WB 1970

A different direction....
Talking Heads - Fear of Music. Sire 1979
May be my favorite Heads album |
Miles Davis' Greatest Hits. Columbia reissue 1977. Originally 1969
|
Grateful Dead - Vintage Dead. Sunflower 1970.
Recorded live at the Avalon Ballroom in 1966, and released without the Dead’s consent at the time. Still, one of my old Dead album favorites, and still in great shape after all these years. Great harmonica by Pig. |
John McLaughlin and Mahavishnu - Adventures in Radio. Relativity 1986
EDIT: This is a bit of an odd album from John, I actually purchased new. It has that mid-80’s Yellow Jackets/Rippingtons vibe. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but John always tended to strike new ground, and this album was more about following the trends of the time. |
Jimi - Axis Bold as Love. Reprise, reissue 1979 |
@bgross

Neil Young - Tonight’s the Night. Reprise 1975 Terre Haute Pressing |
Wynton Marsalis - J Mood. Columbia 1986 |
Starting with some Heifetz. Two LP’s:
Brahms Violin Concerto w/Reiner & The Chicago Symphony is a Canadian reissue from RCA Victor, 1962. I think.
Tschaikowsky Violin Concerto w/Reiner & The Chicago Symphony is also a reissue, RCA Victor, probably in the mid-70’s given the label.
Both in fantastic shape. The Tschaikowsky is especially good.
|
Eduard Van Beinum conducts Brahms Symphony #2. Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam. Epic, mono, probably 1956 per the label design. |
Szell conducts Janacek’s Sinfonietta & Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis. The Cleveland Orchestra. Columbia Masterworks. Released in 1968, not sure if this was issued at that time, or later. Exquisite though. |
Szell conducts Beethoven’s Piano Concerto #2. The Cleveland Orchestra w/Emil Gilels. Angel 1970 |
@boxer12
Thoughts and prayers man. |
The Modern Jazz Quartet - The Last Concert. Atlantic 1975 2 LP set
Just picked this up, have had it on CD for years, and although the set is not in ‘tip top’ shape, actually plays better than it looks, which surprises me, regardless, preferable over the CD version. |
Yellowjackets - Four Corners. MCA 1987
Have not listened to this in a long long long time. More of that 80’s fusion-jazz stuff vs what I prefer now, but really, not too bad actually. Nicely recorded and engineered. Really fills up my room. |
Brian,
That’s great brother. Norman Greenbaum - Petaluma. Reprise 1972 Brings back memories when it was in a more regular rotation, back in the 70’s. And yes, nicely recorded. And forgot Ry Cooder played on this. Steve, is yours a gatefold with the various photos, stories, and cartoon drawings bound within the gatefold? All make it a very charming and complete package. Edit: lol, I didn’t see your edit until I posted ;-) |
"Petaluma" is early Americana at it’s finest! SQ is excellent! I’ve had that album pulled and sitting in front of my rack for a few days now to spin. You are giving me the impetus to play the darn thing......finally ;-) I have not listened to it for years. |
The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. A 4 LP set, consisting of works by Beethoven, Carter, Schumann, Mozart, Bach, Faure’, Moszkowski, Haydn, Brahms, and Saint-Saens.
A surprising purchase; recorded raw with little engineering, and a real sense of the stage and space. Nice.
Released in 1975 by The Classic Record Company for the Book-Of-The-Month Club, of all things. The vinyl is in mint condition, and it was very inexpensive. Cha-Ching.

Paul Simon - Graceland. WB 1986
Haven’t listened to this for ages. |
Dead - Europe 72 @tomic601 👍🏼 |
Sade - Diamond Life. CBS 1985
poking around my 80’s section of LP’s....obviously ;-) |
Nice choice bkeske! Great recording and sound. Still my favorite Zappa, and still sounds ‘up to date’. |
@slaw
Steve, yea, was a huge fan of her’s in the 80’s. Have two of her albums on vinyl I purchased back then before I began transitioning to CD’s. Oddly enough, for whatever reason, she was probably the biggest reason I began my journey into Jazz, and quickly dove back into the old jazz masters of the 50’s and 60’s. I saw her live in the 80’s at her peak, and it was actually a great show. |
New Riders of the Purple Sage - S/T. Columbia 1971 |
Eric Clapton - Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert. RSO 1973 |
Frank Zappa - Hot Rats. Bizarre 1969 |
@uberwaltz And with luck you will be playing all your albums again as they now sound like different records altogether. Thats the plan when you head down the wabbit hole 😁 Yes, I am hoping for fun. Lots of fun 😉 |
I’ve been missing your posts brother! Been extremely busy man, and haven’t spun too many albums since Monday. But, it’s the weekend, so hopefully can relax over the next couple days and do what I love best. |
