Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire De Melody Nelson (Light In The Attic – Reissue) SQ: 9/10!

@slaw Steve, you're costing my money again! Gillian Welch/David Rawlings "All the Good Times" added to my list.

After a week long workathon, let's get this staycation party started with:

J. Geils Band - Bloodshot (of course it's red vinyl, 🙄)

Laura Veirs - Saltbreakers

Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage (Blue Note Classic...$25 bargain!)

Gotta pull some Velvets now!

@slaw 👍Middle Cyclone. If get a hard drive, I have Milk Carton Kids live soundboards for you

The National - Boxer
Bob Welch - French Kiss
Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage (Blue Note Classic series)

Neil Young - Live at Massey Hall

Wilco - A.M. (deluxe)

Thelonious Monk - London Sessions vol. 1 (Black Lion reissue)

@big_greg love that LP, weird that he never did much else

Fairground Attraction - The First of a Million Kisses

Eiji Oue / MN Orch - Copland - Fanfare/3rd Sym (Reference Recordings)

Dr. Keith O. Johnson should run for senate in PA!

@j_husker Thanks for

Newly acquired Mingus-The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady Acoustic Sounds Series 2021.

This mix is off-the-charts good. So much more depth and clarity than the 1973 Reissue that I’ve heard many times. Unbelievable really.

Gonna have to get this.

I'm late to the party here, but wanted to add that a friend brought over a collection of ~20 vintage cartridges that we swapped onto my SP10MkII that I had at the time. The Grace F9 was the one I wanted of his. I ran a couple of interesting ones that my pal, the infamous Raul, sold me...a Goldbug Clement II mc, Satin 21B and a Signet 111E. Signet was to AT as Lexus is to Toyota. The Signet is pretty good if you find one in good shape. All are MC so make sure you've got enough gain.

@mammothguy54 Good luck at Daedelus. Don't let him sell anything called Apollo 13!

Re-spinning recent purchases:

Joan Armatrading - S/T

Art Blakey - Moanin'

Steve Ray Vaughn - In Step (Still WOW!)

@bslon The Busboys! I lost my copy but remember it being a fun LP, haven't heard that band mentioned in 20 years.

@tomic601 Glad chatting with you too! Goodies await.

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme (Acoustic Sounds Series)

Got to mention a highly recommended jazz released in 2010, but new to me, that I've only seen available on CD; Abdullah Ibrahim & Ekaya ‎– Sotho Blue Fantastic, classic bebop style straight outta the late 50s/early 60s, with a South African twist. Piano, saxes, and wait for it...trombone. Played it 5x this week.

Jack White - Lazaretto (Ultra) Weirdest gimmicky pressing ever. Flat profile without lead in groove-fine. Hologram on side 1 near center- cool but hokey. Side 1 plays backwards, from center to edge-WHAT! Horrid noise at the end of the side. Screwing with my mind. I need a melatonin and an old LP without the bells and whistles 🤕

Oh, and the music is GREAT!

@bkeske Brian, Yum to Ah Um! A desert island disc for sure.

@mammothguy54 Congrats on the treasure trove, Joel.

@tomic601 Jim, you're costing me $$$ on the L.A. Woman. Glad to hear that the Feat live is a winner. A recent sad Feat story...I was winning bidder on "Little Feat bundle" from Norman Maslov's recent livestream of the Coleman collection. USPS lost it :-(

Duke Ellington & Ray Brown - This One's For Blanton (Analogue Productions "Fantasy 2nd 25" 45s Series)

Van Morrison - It's Too Late to Stop Now

Norah Jones - Come Away With Me

Thanks for the insightful Oscar recommendation, @arize84 Yes, there was a time when OP didn't mean original poster!

Looking forward to Tim's Thales setup pics on his system page.

@noromance I had a couple of really pricey ones, e.g. Wildflowers OG >$300, Classic Records - KoB, Brandi - Give Up The Ghost >$200. With my UHQR KoB and plans to get Wildflowers & All The Rest, I couldn't justify keeping them...too many other good suggestions here(ya bastids)!

@boxer12 Congrats, that looks like an awesome arm.

@tomic601 Nice haul! Please let us know if the LA Woman sounds as good as the hype. I might have to get it; "Riders" is my wife's fav Doors tune.

Today, I visited a LRS that does "Barter Day" where they value your trade-ins and give you 100% in trade credit, forgoing their profit as a public service. I brought in a dozen collectibles and scored a $1250 credit. Walked out with:

  • Coltrane - A Love Supreme (new reissue)
  • Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage
  • The National - Boxer
  • Stax Singles 68-74
  • Bob Welch - French Kiss

@sourpuss123 +1 It's Like This, great album! She's my all-time fav.

Stevie Nicks - The Wild Heart

Night Beats - Sonic Bloom (RSD 2020)

@slaw @waltersalas @j_husker

Steve, yeah, it's not great sonics.

That's the only one of his I have on vinyl, even in TX they all are very hard to find. I look for his LPs during every LRS visit, and always strike out. The one I found was in NJ, lol.

The best McMurtry recordings I have are live SBDs. Chris, from same sources as the Big Stars I shared with you a few years ago ;-)

@bkeske You're inspiring me to pull classical LPs, thank you.

Bartok - Concerto For Orchestra - CSO/Reiner (Classic Records)

Albeniz - Suite Espanola - DeBurgos/New Philharmonia (Super Analog Disc-Japan)

@noromance +1 Flight Log, coincidentally just pulled it to play today before seeing your comment. While generally not a fan of "best ofs", IMHO it plays like these songs always belonged together, perfectly sequenced.

@tomic601 kudos on the scratch pies! Cornbread is in my queue. I'll stream Alice's Restaurant while I make it.

@here Please consider playing my Holiday Music Challenge. Everyone knows the most passionate music lovers are in this thread!

Pete Yorn - Plays and Sings The Classics (RSD). Somehow he finds a way to put a new unique spin on diverse cuts that have been recorded many times before and weaves it into a coherent album that would make you think they're all originals that you already know the lyrics to...cool trick!

@spiritofradio It's got some trombone and plenty of horns. It's a weird record, very 30s-40s German caberet vibe. Not something for everyday, but once in a while it's good when you're in an avantgarde mood.

JJ/Kai and Bill Evans sounds like something I should check out.

At the moment, mellowing out with:

Lori Carson - Shelter

@spiritofradio A few that come to mind are:

Count Basie - Basie Jam (J.J. Johnson). awesome hifi bargain on Pablo!

Louis Armstrong - Plays King Oliver

Tom Waits - Swordfish Trombones

Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool (J.J. Johnson & Kai Winding)

Jayhawks - Tomorrow The Green Grass.     #janglyharmonious

Arcade Fire - Funeral

Psychedelic Furs - Midnight to Midnight

@spiritofradio everyone knows trombone music is best for cartridge break-in!

+1 Amber Rubarth & SRV QRPs. I've enjoyed Texas Flood for a long time. Just got my backordered In Step 45 in the record cleaning queue along w/Blakey Moanin' Blue Note Classic series.

Some of us can't pay others to clean our records, Jim! 😜. Rube Goldberg ultrasonic all the way for me.

Everything But The Girl - Idlewild. (My pick for most underrated album of the 80s)
