+1 noromance Demon In Disguise is a great "somewhat" overlooked recording!

+1 boxer12 David & David. "Boomtown" easily makes my Top 10 Alternative Rock recordings of the 1980's! If not for Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel it would be a strong contender for album of the year for 1986.
+2 boxer12/slaw

Painters/Electricians have delayed the set up of my system. With any luck I should have my 2 dedicated lines installed by 10/25! Have enjoyed that several newer posters have added immensely to this thread.

Hi clearthinker thanks for responding. Yes having a 0-5 scale is slighly compressed but only because many recordings fall in a very narrow window of sound quality(3.8-4,4) which gives 1/10 a point great significance. Unacceptable is 3.9 or < as was posted. Theoretically a record could rate a 1 but being an audiophile more then a collector my scale is biased towards audiophiles. A poor sounding damaged record would never be in my collection or many others. The lowest rated record(non damaged} so far has been 3.4 due only for sound quality. On the other end of the spectrum two recordings so far have received a 4,8 a Sheffield Labs/Harry James LAB 11 and a Mercury/Balalaika SR 90310. I do agree with you that nothing can be a 10 or 5(my scale) but I could run across a 4.9 I have played(graded) about 45% of my vinyl collection which contains around 1400 albums. In conclusion I do place more value between 4-5 on my scale because that is where a majority of modern vinyl resides, so yes its skewed but not misleading.
It"s a grading scale of 5

4.5> Audiophile SQ
4.4 Near audiophile SQ
4,3 Above average SQ
4,2 Average SQ(nondistracting)
4.1 Acceptable SQ(distracting)
4. Borderline SQ
3,9< Unacceptable SQ

The most difficult grade is a 4,4. I always grade to a lower end bias, so many graded 4.4 could be audiophile level recordings on your own system.

Playlist was from last night 4/18. I started posting 2x per week on 4/14/20, My first update after 7 months had 332 albums sides played with 3 repeats. As of 4/18 613 albums sides have been played, I will omit the 7 intentional repeats from 4/11 giving me a true total of 606. There probably are several repeats over the last 5 months, I will post that info on 4/25. Over the past year have acquired about 100 new recordings and tossing well over 50 giving me a total around 1350 albums. After 1 year not even at the half way mark and just realizing how few audiophile recordings 4.5/5 I own.

I concur Audiophile USA is first class. Have purchased over 60 albums from them, description of vinyl has always met my expectations. Had a sealed record that was warped, they gave me full credit and did not want the album shipped back as proof.

@big_greg Somewhat surprised that the MCA 37040 is better the the original ABC pressing of Can’t Buy A Thrill. Many factors could determine which recording is best. Vinyl condition/level of record cleaning system/ Interconnects(better not go there) ect. Maybe the original Japanese pressing could prove best

@big_greg +1 Steely Dan Can’t Buy A Thrill. Will play later tonight(hope my copy has no barcode).
@mammothguy54 Thx for the info! My copy of "Blow By Blow" was a thrift store find in VG++(cover/vinyl) Not easy for me to spend 50+ dollars on a reissue, since most original pressings hold up well to audiophile reissues. A SQ of 4.2/5 is not all that bad for a rock/fusion recording considering a SQ rating of 4.5 reaches audiophile status in my rating system. My current copy is just a place holder I will look for a better original copy, there might even be a 1/2 speed CBS mastered copy available?

Macdadtexas-Great choices!!! Were the STP/Soundgarden original pressings? How would you rate the sound quality of these 2 "grunge" vinyl recordings?
+1 flennon. I have to admit your the king(playlist) of newer posters! Please try to stay humble.
@mammothguy54 Just want to let you know I have the vinyl version of "Forbidden Colors" do not know if the cd version has audiophile level sound quality.
+1 mammothguy54 Tania Maria gets very little mention here. If you don’t have "Forbidden Colors" 1988 Capitol release, please consider purchasing this 5 star audiophile level recording it could be her best.

Roberta Flack-Killing Me Softly-Side 1 SQ 4.4
Cat Stevens-Teaser And The Firecat Side 2 SQ 4.6
Queen-Greatest Hits Side 1 SQ 4,4

All recordings were played last night. Played some favorites(that were not boxed). Safe At Anchor might be my favorite "folk" album. along with Get The Knack fav "power pop" recording. My wife Loves Teaser And The Firecat as much as any of the Eagles/Hall & Oates or Duran Duran recordings. The Perlman version of the Mendelssohn Concerto is a favorite for both of us. After all is and done a great night of music. With my system down for about 6 weeks I will have more time to delve into my CD collection playing on a Panasonic RX-DS 750 or SA-PM03, which both sound OK. Will keep up with this blog and will probably add a comment or two.

Thx spiritofradio.

+1 Blue Rodeo Tremolo. From the late 80’s to late 90’s I have always thought Blue Rodeo was one of the best mainstream rock bands. "Five Days In July" IMO is one of best pop/rock albums(all genres} of the 90’s.
