What would you do?

I just bought a Denon dp-57l turntable in really , really nice condition for what I feel was quite a bargain ($250). It functions perfectly, gorgeous rose wood veneer, scuff marks on the dust cover which can be buffed out with lens restorer. Even though it functions perfectly, it is 43 years old and has never been recapped. A recapping can cost up to $700. It also came with an Ortofon Red cartridge not worthy of this quality of table and I'd say needs at least a Bronze.  So my question is:

Given the initial $250, plus $700 for a recap, plus let's say $500 for a good mm cartridge, we're looking at $1450 give or take a couple hundred if recapping isn't that much. Is this beautiful table worth it quality and sound wise to put that into it, or would a comparably priced new table beat it in sound quality? Looking for those with a similar Denon who've recapped theirs and have a quality cartridge to voice their experienced opinions. I'm putting it in a system that has Belles integrated, but I'll be using my BAT phono pre.

There is a lot going for maintaining a Electrical Product from a past era.

Not all interested on Olden Era Production know what the Circular Economy is but they are supporters of it without their knowing.

I am aware and take my interest as a Positive, this encourages a keenness to pass on the info about what it means to be participant, where I can say to all that are encouraging the ongoing use of Olden Equipment or are considering buying into Olden Production, that this is the Circular Economy at its best, where the Land Fills are deprived of these items and Modern Production is not considered due to these items.

In relation to audio and this Thread.

@ audphile1, I agree with the advice passed to @ 8th-note

The Hana SL is a Cart' that has been abandoned by quite a few users and in many cases the ML was the choice that was the keeper Cart'.

My own experience of the SL used on a Audiomods Series Five Micrometer and a ID TT, was that it was very short lived in use and had been stored since. It does create music that is comprehensible in all ways, but it has not brought anything that makes listening to be a experience wanted to be kept ongoing or eagerness to revisit the experience.

I have a few suggestions for @ 8th-note, the Links show a very affordable way to acquire additional Headshells that can have a few Cart's ready to be used and exchanged on the fly, to really allow where Cart's are able to impact on a End Sound produced.

Spare Cart's mounted in an exchangeable Headshell is my preferred option.

As the TT is long-term owned and so enjoyed, I have added Links to very reasonably priced donor models that have their Speed Function confirmed as working.

One Model does claim the Auto Tonearm is not in perfect order, which if this is the selected donor TT, could have the Tonearm removed and substituted by a conventional Tonearm to enable the opportunity to be had to compare a Tonearm design with the TT's dedicated Arm Design using the Two TT's side by side.

I think the costs being seen, shows the investigations are not to be too costly to expand on the already had experiences.

From my experiences of JVEDDTT's, there is a substantial monies needing to be spent to find betterment over a good condition model with a quality Plinth and Tonearm > Cartridge selected.

The DP 47F through design may be limiting in what can be added to it, to create improvement, but the option to expand on it using an alternative Tonearm soes bring something extra to be considered.

Can a additional TA be mounted onto the existing Plinth (TBC)??

Can a additional TA be mounted by using an Off Board Standalone TA Pod (Definitely Yes) The only limitation being the Length one is selecting for the TA Wand.

Can a TA be mounted onto the existing Plinth by making space through the removal of the partnering TA supplied with the TT (TBC) ?? a modification to the Plinth may be required when the original TA is removed, to create the base to support the alternative TT.

Off the above, the Off Board TA Pod created the most flexible methodology to enable experiencing alternate TA's.

It will be the most simplistic method to create a TT that will go toe to toe with TT's that are costing  30 -50+ x More the Value of the DP 47F.

Do look into if anything can be learnt that is suitable to yourself, as the methodology for adding lubrication in to the Platter Spindle Bearing Housing.

The Suggestion a TT is with satisfactory Lubrication after such a long period from leaving the assembly line is pure BS.

The suggestion the Sintered Bronze Bushes are able to maintain lubrication after numerous years in a dry environment is BS.

Note: The Bearing Housing Sump Rubber Seal will most likely have perished and not be able to contain a ponding fill of lubricant, think more of adding a coating to the parts more than creating a fill where the parts are submerged.

I have always bought Duplicates of Japanese Vintage Era DD TT’s

The Links gives the option to have a Dual Use, with one having a Straight Wand and the other a ’S’ Wand, with one always being looked upon as the Donor Model for Spare Parts if needed.

Additionally, If the Upgrade Bug take hold, there is always a Model left untouched, which creates the ideal scenario to compare the changes being put in place.

Within your Budget easily acquires duplicate DP80 Models, a search on the site will get a Plinth for $60 with a Tonearm for $50 - $200

The experiences had on JVEDDTT’s has been so positive to see what can be achieved, with a different approach to Mechanical Interfaces and on a certain Model a redesign for a Speed Control, that the same curiosity was taken into Phonostages and Amplifiers where Duplicate Models were used to compare changes being made to one model.

I can assure that in relation to Phono Signal, when the design for the Phono Signal path allows for Low Eddy Connections from Phono Cable to Phonostage Out RCA’s. My experiences of this as a practice has been substantial improvement over a typically selected Low Mass Design as the thought off upgrade for connections.

Signal Wire Type has a major input to, but a lot is on offer that is very convincing when the Low Eddy RCA Option is adopted.

Extending this onto other Amplification, adds to the good impression, but in a lesser measure, it is the earlier upstream Signal that really is discernible for the better.

Is my experience ubiquitous and will extend into all systems, I do not know, but my experiences, results in my not wanting to keep quiet and sit on such a info.

What is ubiquitous is ’ Nothing Ventured - Nothing Gained ’
