What do you think causes the crackle and clicks we hear?

I think pops are easier to understand but clicks and crackle noises, what causes this?

@tuberollin has a point. I have heard the impovement as well.but regardless, still need to get the carbonate particles out of the  groove so the stylus can actually track the groove to much more information that is hiding in those grooves.

@johnss I use a US bath for new records as well as used. I use a cleaning agent used in hospitals that is anti-static as well as a cleaner and disinfectant (my records are also germ free). After the bath the records are rinsed twice (once with a special sauce) using a vacuum RCM. I always use a new sleeve as well. After a record has been played several times the shear friction of playing causes a static buildup, then I De-Gauss, De-static or de-magnetize (whatever @Geoffkait wants to call it). And...it works.
All I do is dust my LPs So that my stylus doesn't wind up making distortion near the end of the LP side due to dust build-up. I never wash the records, don't do anything about static or 'magnetic' fields. I just play the records and most of them are ticks and pops free. The age of them is irrelevant. Your system will not have a great deal of ticks and pops if its set up right.
