What Do You Think?

I was browsing the electronics section on Craigslist and came across a pair of Magnepan MMGs for $450. The ad said there were multiple upgrades made by a guy in Chicago which seem to involve the crossovers. I looked on-line at prices and that seems to be about what they sell for, but without upgrades.

I don’t really have the room for these speakers and I know they need to be out from walls about 3 feet to sound their best. But if everything I’ve heard about magneplaners are true, and for this price, maybe I should get them and figure out how to use them later? What do you think?

Probably the first thing I should do is go to a high end audio store and listen to electrostatics to see if I like the sound, right?

So . . . Magnepan 3.7  >  1.7  >  LRS  >  MMG?

Thank you for the advice.  I agree and will pass on them.  The seller sounds sincere and knowledgeable, but don’t they all?  You might have saved me the aggravation.  Stay safe and take care.

@asvjerry, My listening room is 14’ x 19’, short ceiling (around 7’) and currently filled with furniture.  I also have a 65” tv mounted on wall, so I have to accommodate that.  I have a somewhat larger room, but it’s right off the front door and I didn’t want anyone coming to the door to see my equipment, for security reasons.  I bought a pair of Martin Logan 60XT’s in January, when I first got into audiophile-type equipment.  The room is carpet over concrete and the speakers sit on spikes and are not the easiest to move around.  I like the idea of ribbon panel speakers that are easy to move out into the room for listening and back against the wall for space.  But I like the ML’s too.
