wadia 170 i transport- need help


can I plug in my wadia 170 i transport to the back of my rotel cd player and use the rotel dac or do i need an external dac to plug the wadia into- thanks.

No, because no Rotel CD player that I know of has a digital input. If you have a CD player that does, then you should be able to do so as long as the dac is compatable with whatever format the Wadia is sending out. Also, I think the 170i does have a dac as well, even though they call it a transport. But I'm not a 100% sure on that.
The Wadia does not have a DAC built in. It bypasses the internal DAC in your IPod allowing you to use a higher grade external DAC. Personally, I use a Jolida glass FX tube DAC which I have had great results with. There are so many great DACs out there though. The Rega DAC is another great sounding one.

It has both analog and digital outputs. Do the analog outputs serve a different purpose?
I think the analog outputs are tight to the ipod build in dac. Of course people get the Wadia 170 so the can bypass the ipod dac and use an outboard better dac.My 170i is being collecting dust as of two years ago,I went with the mac mini server.
