USB/SPDIF interface not working

I purchased a usb/spdif interface from Mapleshade. After browsing the drivers on M2tech's website, I downloaded the one I thought I needed for my Mac. I went into my Midi settings and changed the output to "hiface" (which was the downloaded driver). I then went to "system preferences", and in "sound" chose the hiface output. My dac does not see any signal from the computer's usb output. I tried moving the interface to the other usb outputs and still nothing. To make matters worse, I downloaded a more recent driver from M2tech and now my computer doesn't give me ANY option, only built-in optical.

Did I install the wrong driver initially? I contacted M2tech but everything I've read about their customer support is true. I haven't received a response yet. I don't know who to ask.
