upgrade or not

Here is what I am thinking about. First, I am more into my vinyl right now than CD. So spending a couple of grand on a new CD player is not in the cards right now. I am using a CAL CL-15 Cd player which I am not really enjoying very much. I could sell it and buy another used player for 5 or 6 hundred but that doesn't seem to be the best idea. I also have a Sony DVP S3000 DVD player that is not getting hardly any use. Since the CAL does not have a digital output. If I were to sell the CAL and buy a used DAC and use it with the Sony, would that be a better option than just suffering with the CAL? Would the DVP S3000 make a decent transport?
