Turntable mat for Sony PS-x6

I have a Sony PS-x6 turntable and really like it. I’ve been reading about different turntable mats. Would replacing the original mat with an aftermarket mat bring better performance? If so, any suggestions? I don’t want to spend more than $100-125. Also, if I go that route what size mat should I get? I’m not that knowledgeable about turntables so any advice is much appreciated.

You'll get as many different opinions as responses. I use Boston Audio graphite mats and also the SAEC SS300 metal mat, with good results on DD turntables like your PSX6. Anyway, you have the right idea about replacing the original mat, if it's the typical rubber used on Japanese TTs in the 70s and 80s,

Thanks for the responses so far. I’m definitely going to try an aftermarket mat.

The platter on the PS-X6 rings like a bell. The arm height is not too adjustable which may limit what the options are. To damp the platter you may want to try a 2mm brass mat from doukmall then add a thin rubber mat on top of it. The brass will damp the aluminum platter very well. Getting both should be doable for under your budget.
