Tuner choices: Tandberg or Luxman?

I recently acquired a Tandberg 3001A and a Luxman T-111. It looks like I could resell the Tandberg for quite a bit more than the Luxman. Will it be a horrible mistake to get rid of the Tandberg?

Tuners are a dying breed with all the network hi-rez streaming sources and worldwide internet radio station choices exploding. The FM tuner resale prices are trending down.

MY TAKE:

If you are going to use your FM tuner more than just rarely AND you enjoy it ….. think TANDBERG as the better stablemate to your LINN system mentioned in your prior post today .

otherwise, if it is just a nominal / rare use source largely ignored on a daily basis, or if your local FM station(s) options or FM reception is ? .,,,, then consider maximizing your investment recovery now and sell the TANDBERG (…. or both)

here is a vintage tuner reference source FWIW

in my case, my PHILIPS AH 673 ( made in USA model) cost to recap, realign, upgrade and essentially rebuild to when new or better specs by an experienced pro tech probably cannot be expected to be recovered. It’s only because of my outlay refurb investment (not my finest hour choice in retrospect) that Im keeping as a “WTF- just keep it for now “ option unless it finds it way to a new good home sometime.

Can't help you with those two. I do have a new Sangean HDT-20 Digital AM/FM tuner and it performs real well with a simple indoor cable antenna. No vintage tuner issues to deal with and hi res to boot. Win, win.

Can’t compare but know the old Tandberg gear well from old Tech Hifi days.  The Tandberg gear was top notch in its day! Had a TR-2080 receiver for many years and the tuner even on that receiver was exceptional in its day. If I had a Tandberg Tuner in good working order now I would want to keep it and only sell for a nice premium. Maybe. Everybody has a price. Cheers!
