You will never get a coherent sound mixing tubes and solid state amps in a speaker like the B&W 801s. The sonic texture of these amplifiers will never mesh properly. You will end up with a discontinuous sound that will be extremely bothersome, especially on instruments like cello that have a wide frequency range. That is if you can manage to balance the sound level differences between the 2 amplifiers. You should consider buying just one great tube amlifier like a Lamm ML 1 that is both musical and has a bass that will put any solid state amp to shame. rgds, david k.
Tube and Solid State Amps both Biwired
Hello, I think I'm in trouble. In my teste, tube amps are much closer to reality but with the exception of proper bass and volume. I want to run my B&W 801 S/II's biwired woofers by solid state, mid/highs are by a pair of mono tubes. Some people says very good idea, some other says two different sound will be perceived. Anyone who tried or listened such a thing and shares the information with me ? OAtalay@Hotmail.com
