Traded Off my SLP-05

So I just traded off my beloved Cary SLP-05 to TMR for a nice BHK Signature Pre with some Tele tubes. Please tell me I didn't make a mistake....smiley So I've never heard the BHK in live person but read/listen/read more reviews online and felt it "could" be an upgrade in my setup. Associated gear below and my room is 36x18x9. Lend me your gentle thoughts if you can. TIA

Well, I purchased a Lumin X1 which uses the Leedh volume control. So, I sold the preamp, cables. footers etc.

I am going straight from the Lumin to my Mono block amps.

sqitis,

I tried several, including the Pass Labs P-20, Ayre and the Cary SP-05. I just never enjoyed the Esotar tweeter that was used in the Andra’s. Too dark sounding. I would have preferred a faster, clearer more dynamic preamp. Alas, I ended up selling the Andra’s and the Cary.

Today, I am using Clarisys Planar speakers and couldn’t be happier.

Sounds like you prefer the "tube sound".

I too for a time owned the Andra 2. And to me, the Andra 2 with the Esotar tweeters (I thought) that the upper frequencies were subdued.

And I also owned the Cary SLP-05 (with different speakers) and it also had sort of a romantic sound with subdued upper frequencies.

That combo will really lean toward the mid and lower mid sound. So, equipment and their relationship with each really matters.
