To pre-amp or not to pre amp

My current system Laptop-acting as streamer/ROON /DAC-acting as pre amp/output to active speakers via XLR
No Pre amp.
Am I short changing the system by not having a pre amp after the DAC?
PSAudio seems to think so.
I have a very nice pre amp doing nothing -Metaxas Marquis.
Should incorporate into my system and reap significant benefit ?
