Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

Mine has that as well just slightly noticeable. Being I purchased the pair brand new in 2005 it's got to be the many years of temperature fluctuating and normal playback wear and tear. Maybe take a Hex Key and tighten all the front screws in the case they became loose over the years which hold the speaker cones in place.

These speakers require lots of quality watts to sing their best. What amplifier are you using?

Good seeing all the tweek talk amongst many Thiel speaker design enthusiast. I happen to be also since purchasing a pair of CS2.4 in walnut finish close to 20 years ago now. They are still living up to the task of proving a very great listening. Take a peek at my virtual system . Wondering if anyone has an interest in buying a slightly used MCS1 pair or a SCS4 pair (both in black ash finish) like new condition and have spent 8 years still in factory boxes

Hi Thiel speaker aficionado!

I have a question regarding a low frequency powered subwoofer speaker addition to my stereo setup. In my case its the CS2.4 towers and Pass Labs X150.8 stereo amplifier along with one REL S/812 powered sub.

Out of the gate I can tell it’s more than capable of producing more LF than will ever be needed so its in a good location. (front corner facing the listening position directly behind left channel speaker) Connected up via the high level speakon input connection directly from the Pass amplifier to integrate seamlessly with my CS2.4 mains.

Does anyone have tips tricks to get optimal crossover adjustments dialed in perfectly? I’m going mostly by ear and its currently set to 12 o’clock at the level/gain knob and 2 o’clock at the Crossover knob. Phase switch is set to 180

Best regards,

ok great! I do thank you for the advice and recommendation Cascadesphil. I didn't know if a certain frequency is best to have dialed in on crossover but it sounds like each setup differs depending on room acoustics. The test mic will give the software roll off points I assume? Sorry if that sounds like a numnut its just I'm all very new to this. I've never owned a subwoofer before

Jafant The X150.8 is incredible sounding. High end sound right from the start. Thank you for a compliment.

very cool to hear about the design feature for the CS7 speaker Tom. A gentleman on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF_Fe0nRXHg gave his personal review of it. StereoNiche

Must have high quality upstream electronics. I've listened to Thiel CS6 at a friends w/classe mono blocks and it sounded bright. Room setup & speaker placement could have been partly to blame.

My CS2.4 Speakers sounded bright before I got BAT VK-600 @ 300w per channel.

Even recently my new PASS X150.8 amp isn't as enjoyable to hear as the Balanced Audio Technology. Something about not only the high frequency but a glorious sweet sounding full midrange. The pass is a very fine amplifier and does have its own secret sauce but with another speaker perhaps...

Well, Decided to Setup the MCS1 speakers and REL S/812. Sounds very similar to the CS2.4’s so far but I’m not sure about setting the sub crossover exact as I should. Does anyone have tips for doing it? some frequencies are not apparent but that could be because I have standing on the floor (currently looking for stands)

Just dropping by to say that the Thiel MCS1 Speaker is a really fine cabinet loudspeaker sound wise for stereo. Not sure how it didn't make more of a splash and was so heavily advertised for Home Theatre but hey, That was the times I guess!. Since 6 months of having it play all of my music the top end treble doesn't extend like CS2.4 and maybe a smidgen less bass.

I've also traded out the VK600 amp and have a PASS x150.8 in its place. I figured the MCS1 being a little more sensitive things would sound good enough would less wattage. Truly sublime component combination going here and couldn't be happier with the results.

Happy summer all!

I would dare to say that both are incredibly musical amplifiers. PASS X150.8  opens up a little more deeper into the details and dynamics vs BAT VK600. Love the soundstage on both amps. The MCS1 and CS2.4 are quite the different speaker as well, If I still had the CS2.4's perhaps the top frequencies would have sounded better during long listening sessions with the BAT....  I'm also a fan of heavy metal where it has that sublime midrange. I'm still wondering if that was the 300w per channel difference here ? Only been flipping between CD's on the Ayre and Luxman players so no records yet unfortunately.  matching components that compliment each  really are important and only your ears can say what is good at the end of the day. Thanks for the reply
