Fascinating to read the story of the Thiel start-up. A bit sad too now that the company is no more. Could you tell us a bit more about what happened to the company after your brother passed on? Thanks Tom.
It's a very sad story, but I think I'd prefer to turn it around the other way and celebrate thee many successes Jim achieved during his career, and the many people who are still enjoying his creations. Thanks for that information Jim.

Soundocity makes great outriggers for a reasonable price. |
@tomthiel
Wow. Once again I realize that speaker design is for much larger brains than my own, and I'm very grateful that they exist! Thanks for all of the insights into the design process. It is incredibly interesting

Spikes are certainly better than no spikes, but can't even come close o the improvement that Starsound SP 101 platforms provide. Apparently the Townshend spring platforms are at least as effective. |
Were you thinking of Kimber Black Pearl Tom?
Why don't you try it and see what you think?
tomthiel.
I remember that Kimber fire hose very well. It was called Black Pearl. At the time it was the most hideously expensive (but very pretty) cable I had ever seen.
That's fascinating information Tom. I look forward to your conclusions about hookup wire.
Wow, that's great Tom! I had no idea that you'd be interested, but this is really exciting.
@tomthiel
Hi Tom,
Did you decide against buying the 7.2's on usaudiomart? I just noticed that they are still for sale.
That's great to hear Tom. Thanks for the update.
@tomthiel
That's good to hear because I can't see Adcom amps as being used as a reference when you're designing or refining previous speaker designs. From my own experience with an Adcom amp many years ago, they just aren't that good.
@tomthiel
Thanks For the detailed information about Adcom amps. My negative opinion came from using one as a loaner many years ago while my amp was being serviced. I see now that mine must have been one of the bad ones.
Were they really $8900.00 new, or is that a crazy Canadian retail? That said, it looks like a great deal.
@thieliste
I don't think that you could call that a "typical integrated" unless you were kidding.
@jon_5912
I'm hoping that you're just kidding. You must be.
@jon_5912
I'm not sure of what you mean by "slow", but I really had nothing more to say. You made a very exaggerated statement and I commented on it. You then explained that it was hyperbole, which I certainly agree with.

@jonandfamily
Well congratulations to him on his Frankenthiel, He may like the sound, but he has changed the drivers as well as the crossover, so it is no longer a Thiel. It’s really surprising how many people thank that they can just freely substitute drivers other than the ones that the designer specified for the cabinet and crossover as it was originally designed.
@andy2
How can you see that? The pictures don't get nearly close enough to see the tweeter in detail.
Sorry, I didn't do that. Yes, I see it, and it's badly dented. He should disclose that.
@ronkent
What did you mean by "solid silver"? Did you actually mean solder containing silver?
@tomthiel
That is exactly what I was thinking. As a former bench jeweler, I knew that pure silver would be impossible to use for this purpose. I have used the 3% type that you mention on crossovers. Thanks for the clarification.
