Thiel 3.6 to Eggleston Andras II

Well chalk me up as another Thiel owner who strayed and came back! I think I was warned by Stevecham, Unsound, and others. Having used 3.6's for 10+ years I just can't live without the coherency and clarity - there is just so much there. That is one reason I did not sell them...

I just finished my build out of an acoustically designed room - they are even better sounding than before. The Thiels are back on the stage!

I applaud you for re-opening this thread and letting us know about your change of heart. Doesn't surprise me, I must say.

I also thank you for the update. I have struggled many times with the same thoughts. I have been a Thiel owner since the 80's and currently own the CS6. I find it easy to get excited about a different sound when I change out my other speakers, but after a month or so I switch back to the Thiels. You switched to a very nice speaker in the Eggleston but still come back, which reminds me to be satisfied with what I have.

I think the key to understanding how important time and phase coherence is that, once you have experienced it and "learned" the cue to listen for in playback, it becomes apparent when it is taken away and the brain expects these timing cues to be intact. Instead one is sensitized and hears things that are out of time with regard to timbre and attack microdynamics across the frequency range. These most subtle cues add up. I think this is the reason why when I left Thiel for Dynaudio many years ago, a year later I just had to return to Thiels (or Vandersteen).

anyone ever audition the Eggleston WEGG3 loudspeaker? While not quite a time and phase coherent design, it is not far removed from this traditional design its Tweeter array.  Very cool speaker, 6ft tall, weighs over 100 lbs.
Double 10" woofers per speaker.  I would love to know its current capacity (like a Thiel loudspeaker)?  Very limited production due to the $25K price tag
circa early 2000's.

you might say that this was my 1st taste of truly higher end speakers in a CJ/Sim Audio/Audience system.  My room would not do this speaker proper justice.  This was a niche' product from Eggleston. Still, my original query exists- how much current does that speaker require to drive the tweeter array and dual 10" woofers per side?  Google for pics of this incredible loudspeaker.

I would only move up and move on w/ a Verity Audio loudspeaker at a much higher price.
