The people we meet from this hobby

I was looking for an Am/Fm tuner for my workshop/garage.  Prefer to do just local radio when working on my cars and such.   So I check marketplace this morning and someone close to me was selling a Luxman T-117 for $50.   I pull up to his home.  See a massive antenna in back yard and this huge rear hitch mounted antenna on his Honda CRV.   I go into his home and we go into a room with an entire wall of shelves and HAM radio gear. He also has a Morse code tapper… had some audio gear too but not much.    In the next room is a repair and fabrication room for HAM and radio stuff.   Tons of organizers wall mounted with bits and parts…..  in his garage a lathe, milling machine, and big band saw.   He use to service and repair all kinds of electronics and help folks with the installations.  The goal was to pick up a tuner for cheap but the experience of meeting this gentleman definitely left an impression.   I’m in my late 50s and have met quite a few audio hobbyists but nothing like this.   Have you come across any individuals through audio that left such an impression?

No one crazy just yet. Maybe one day. More women should be in this hobby lol.

Your guy is pretty far gone, but I've known my share of deeply involved aficionados as well. Then again, more than a few folks think I'm also a hair over the edge. The mere existence of a dedicated, tweaked out audio room is enough for some to wanna call the men in white coats. The Boa Constrictor speaker cables. My many musical instruments. My opera collection. My 45's, some dating back to the 1940's.
