Jtwrace, Miki is the spitting image of my mother's sister and she talks just like her! scary. 

Duratex is  textured elastic very tough elastic coating for commercial sound equipment cabinets and speakers. Although you could us it on your own cabinets (Parts Express sells it) it is not the look most of us want. We  prefer wood veneers and lacquer finishes. I use M.L. Campbell Duravar Satin Black which is really not a lacquer. It is a conversion varnish which sprays and dries like a lacquer and is thinned with lacquer thinner. The ultimate finish for a loudspeaker is Polyester lacquer,  the stuff they use on electric guitars and pianos. It is even harder than Duravar and has a higher gloss rating. Many speakers are now using a polyester clear on there veneers. You can tell from the deep clear gloss you get. Colors are available also. The problem is the stuff is more toxic and difficult to work with.
