The German Avalon speakers

Does anybody know what’s the drill with these? Instead of the normal Avalon logo these have a plaque in German saying they’ve been specially hand built for the German Avalon importer, Active Audio. Looks like they're only found in Europe and in very small quantities. 
I’ve found only one answer so far mentioning that they have nicer veneer than the normal models but is it true? Avalon’s finish is already second to none on every model...
