You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and IME the recipe for success is find a speaker you like first and THEN make it active. Just because a speaker is active only gives the POTENTIAL for better performance, doesn't guarantee it.
The disappearance of the traditional amplifier
In the studio and post production world, powered monitors are displacing traditional speakers and amps at record pace. the pro shops as well appear to be abandoning the 'box'. its not like this 'just happened', but is the power amp fading out like a record?
