The best speaker you ever heard?

In my opinion, the speaker is by far the most important part of the audio system. After all, it is the only part you hear. OK, the other stuff really matters a lot, but without a great speaker... No go.

I am a bit 'speaker-obsessed' I guess, and now I am wondering: What are the best speakers you have ever heard, and what made them the best?

I've saw Eric's system at the audiocircleforum, If I recall...The Diva-Muse system was a system he owned before he switched to Vmps RM-40's which he has sold off to upgrade to the Vmps RM/X system he now owns.

He has? some pictures posted at that forum a while ago and may have posted more sense I saw those, don't know.

One of the best, if not the best. The Duetta Sig's are the best all-around speaker I have owned....they do it all!!!

I have owned many a speaker system but NONE sound as real as these do.

"I have still yet to hear a sax that sounds as *breathy* as in real life with a sax right in front of you..... anyone heard different?"

The best sax I've heard... "breathy" and very real sounding has come from my Apogees in my room playing one of my "Houston Person" CD's. I think trombone (Steve Turre) 20bit Telarc recording I have is the best "bite" I've heard from that instruments reproduction by a pair of speakers... The trombone can also be somewhat "breathy" at times.

Drop by the Apogee speaker users forum, we have members in the UK that will be more than happy to let you do just that. We have members all over Europe with many Apogee models for that matter. BTW, A pair of one of the best ever Apogees (Scintilla) is on Ebay/Europe as I type...they look to be in great shape!

" I've heard $10,000 speakers fed by a lousy source sound like crap"

Won't a $10,000 source make lousy speakers sound like crap also? You don't have those "White Van" speakers do ya?

Just kidding...I know what your saying, although...IMO, any weak link is a weak link... in the BIG picture.

This snip from a thread is from the very first "Synergy" owner...they don't sound like to tuff an amp load.

"The Synergy efficiency is at least 95 db/W, I actally think it could be more like 96 to 97. Impedance is around 2.5 ohms and very linear.
I was using single 70WPC Rowen monos at home, and even with constant 100db peaks for 20 mins they only got warm"

Anyone own, or heard the "Amphitryon" that can comment on their efficiency?

" Can't afford the Analysis, although I'm finding myself suddenly searching for a good pair of Apogee Divas "

HeHe....I saw your wanted ad. You may want to drop a note on the Apogee speaker forum. We have members all over the world to help in your search...they also sometimes sell, as they move from one model to another.

There is (or will be soon?) a pair of Studio Grands, Scintilla, and Diva for sale in the United States if I recall correctly...all in top condition from what I recall reading.
