The best speaker you ever heard?

In my opinion, the speaker is by far the most important part of the audio system. After all, it is the only part you hear. OK, the other stuff really matters a lot, but without a great speaker... No go.

I am a bit 'speaker-obsessed' I guess, and now I am wondering: What are the best speakers you have ever heard, and what made them the best?

In 1996 or there abouts I had the opportunity to listen to the Jadis Eurythmie II speakers at the Stereophile show at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Even under the poor conditions of the show, I was astounded with their effortless and dynamic presentation. I knew in the proper room, with proper set up, they would be remarkable in all other areas, such as coherence and imaging. I would love to own a pair.
Tbg, I believe Jadis of France is still in business, but I do not know the current US importer, if there is one. As far as obtaining a pair, the last price I remember was around $45000. Not that anyone would ever part with them. Not that I could ever afford them. But, I remember them well!
Much earlier in this thread I made an indication of the best speaker I have ever heard. These speakers were not set up in an ideal environment , but yet I was blown away by them .I would like to point out that a speaker cannot be evaluated on their own. The room and its acoustics, the connected equipment and cables , the ac supply , the recording , even the time of day , all play a part to the listening experience . Unlike headphones , there are to many variables . We all would have differing opinions to greater or lesser degrees, if the same speakers were set up in different environments. We are all aware of the complexities of putting a system together, making each component work with the rest (according to our own individual tastes ). I personally would like to know other facts about the system/room in which speakers have been determined "best". If this is the beginning of another thread, that was not my intention. When I or someone else says that " these are the best speakers I have ever heard " , the listening conditions are important and critical. I hope I have not upset anybody. The pursuit of perfection , when it comes to listening to recorded music over these years , has made me highly critical ( which is not always a good thing ). Thank you , Dan
HiFisoundguy, We are all happy you love your Bose 901's. Many years ago I owned Original 901s and later some Series 3. They were hung from the ceiling, along an excellent wall, and I used many different sets of electronics available at that time, with open reel, lps and fm as sources. Admittedly, they did some things quite well. However, as I also had other loudspeakers at that time, DQ10s,Allison 1s,Gale 401s,Ar9',Cornwalls, etc., I realized that reflecting most of the sound, purposely, took away from the details. You see, room acoustics is a given, and in most rooms, the 1st reflection is off the wall that is closest to the speakers, which is the case with most of our rooms. So, I gave them up. The sound of Ohms, Mbls, and other omni speakers give some of this effect, but again, imo, loose some of the finite details. But, they also do some things very well. I am a die hard Klipsch Lascala owner, and have found that they are the speaker for me. I wish everyone could hear my system, especially those who do not have a clue as to how wonderful a musical presentation they present. Even if they liked what they heard, it might not be the sound for them. A friend of mine has B&W 800 series, and another has Martin Logans. They love coming over and listen . They ultimately go home and stay with what they have. This is the point I am trying to make. Be happy with what you have, but pushing the 901 issue on others creates feelings that will turn on you......Sorry I went on, but......
