Tell me about saec 308 Long tonearm

Hello,

Could you please tell me sth about that tonearm ?

I am completely inexperienced with it.

I don't have even a table for it yet.....

Why it is specific, why it is good, is it difficult to instal it , to set etc ? What it is compared to MS ma-505x? (Which I don't know either....)

what are best cartridges for it, of course?

This kind of things....

Thank you very much

Serge

I have a WE-308 New type and I like it a lot. The difference between the older version and the newer version is the weight and length of the counter balance. Maybe an Improvement on the knife edge bearings? These arms are inexpensive and plentiful. I also have a 407/23 which is a better build quality.

Im curious to know bourns supremacy guy  hands on experience with the wrong offset angle and heaviness?

I've not used a Saec 308 arm but I'm in agreement with Serge on this. As far as being heavy, it would suit the cartridges that I use and am looking forward in the future to use. I know my friend uses one with a Denon DL-103 with great results on his Garrard 301.

If I found a really good deal on one I'd add it to my collection.

Thank you very much for you reply.

Sounds like the features you pointed out are negative.

In short, saec 308Long are not good in your eyes (normal version is also not good as having the same offset angle , as it seems)

Well, You surely know the subject better, I don’t know, personally I never used one.

But, It just seems strange that such a respectable and competent company like SAEC produced BAD tonearms, and did it for many years. Why did not they produce lighter tonearms with a sufficient offset angle, I wonder?

And many people all over the world paid real money for it (and pay even now), used it , and liked it very much. How that can be explained?

There seems to be a contradiction....

But what is good, then? tell me which tonearms you like (are better)

and why .

Thank you

Serge
