Tang Band 8 vs DavidLouis VX8

TB has this **pill** neo dymium magnet system,, like the VoxAC1A.. I was not impressed.
Whereas the DLVX8 has a solid 1 pice Nd magnet system.
I just asked the DL seller, he confirmed my guess, the TB is not up to same level of quality as his DL VX8.
I just wrote and asked him if the VX8 is in fact Nd.
His listing for the VX6 says **Nd*,,so its my guess since both magnets look  the same build, I'm guessing its Nd.

+ big bonus, the DL comes it at  just under $500, TB is $640.
The DL just looks superior build.
Arrives next week, late due to GHL's ship is behind.

AS in every speaker designs.
Panles,
Horns
Box xovers
and any other design you can think of,
Concentric

There are the few good ones, the rest,,well, not fidelity.
Same deal in WB's.
There are a  very few good ones, the rest are good only to OK only.
From my experience of the budget lines,
This DavidLouis VX8 is best bang for the buck.
Its the one to own.
The chinese audiophile is more up on these new 21st C speaker designs.
My dealer says , in china, everyone owns Wide Bands,
They dont mess around with these box speakers. Which amerucan audiophiles  are so so attached to.
For me its a no brainer, wide band, at least the best, offer so much more than any box design.
Listening  to the vid right now  with  my $10 comp speakers,, Yes exactly what you are hearing is exactly how they sound in real time.
SHF
Super High Fidelity.
It is not a myth, nor a  fleeting phantasy.
It exists, Its for real.
The chinese audiophile is already *Full*lly aware of what these Wide bands are capable of.
For all sorts of reasons,, the USA audiophile just doesn;'t *get IT*
Sorry there is no speaker that will compete with the midrange in this DLVX8.
2nd to none.

Who was it that said  a perfect speaker does not exist??
OK, let me say, I have as close to perfection I ever hoped  or dreamed. .
Here you go,
~~~~~DAVIDLOUIS VX8~~~~
In action.
Bass 10/10 = perfection
Midrange 10/10 = Perfection
Highs 9/10 = Excellent.
Dual WB;'s is not what we are after.
Just 1 single driver that delivers superior midrange with bass.  and some representation of highs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXDqeyPcwzs
OK,,I;m back
Swaped out the memory on the Sony,,now longer videos..
OK, so i have the WB thing all figured out.
OK,
Q)) so what are we after?
A)) Midrange.
Q)) Do we wish for bass as a  bonus?
A)) Yes , some bass should be there
Q)) Highs?
A)) Yes and no, some roll off is accepatble.
Q)) Why the forgiveness on highs??
A)) you can easily add your fav tweet
All WBers have to rated according to only 1 fq range,. higher bass fq;s through upper mids, through low highs.
Here is where box speakers, The Thiels, The Vandersteens, The Wilson;'s  all of them, including the LSR's/Magnepan's. have issues, is in this massive critical fq range.
Low bass, ck Wilson's, Vanderseen's, top dawgs.
We dont need/want deep bass ina  WBer. But I can tell you this, the DLVX8 ROCKS!!!
All the  solid bass you want or need.
So now we havea  WBer that competes with Wilson/Vanderseen's bass!!!!
Yet passes both up on midrange.
Easily matches Magnepan's midrange, but DOES NOT require any special amplifier,
Anjy amp will do, from SET's to massive  Jadis like my Defy7
I seriously doubt the TBW82145 will match the DLVX8.  At least in what i PERSONALLY am looking for. = Midrange.
There may be a  superior midrange out there in speaker universe,
My search is over.
2 years of brain rack, hour after hour on the Inet,
I finally found what I;ve always been looking for.
Lets see if vid is loaded,,be back.......
No, will have to post vid later....
hummm, just uploadeda  vid,, delete post,, hummm, Not going to work out.
The VX8 does not offer enough highs.
Seems the best way to worka  WBer is
a  5 or 6 inch + any bass,mid bass/woofer of your choice.
The WBer 8's offer bass, but highs are rolled off = not good.
Listen to this video,,
Whats going on here is doubling the midrange, and crushing out the highs.
IOW its all out of balance.
I have the TBW82145 arriving.
If it beats out the DLVX8, and the DL Yellow cone,, Then i will sell off the 2 DL's and keep the TBW82145
1 of the 3 will stay,
2 will be sold off.
The only way to work a  WBer is
woofer of your choice.
+ Tweeter of your choice, and a  5 or 6 inch WBer.
At least this is my preliminary testing of the 8.
I have no idea the performance of the TBW82145.
I have serious doubts it has highs..
But as i say that guess might be off the mark as the TBW82145 boasts a  new aluminum type phase plug which increases the high fq's.
we will see..or better listen...
 1 of the 3 stay.
If I keep the DLVX8 , i will needa  2nd tweeter, maybe/maybe not,,maybe dual Kasun 3.5 paper double magnet  91 db tweets??? Possible.
Or the  Seas T35. Possible.
As I say, this video shows its wayyy too midrange heavy and crushes out the highs from the DL Yellow cone 6 + Kasun paper tweet.
Dual WBers will not work.
Just arrived DHL/China 6 day ship
WOW
The wood (bamboo wood?) cone has punch with finger tap, = Got bass.
Hows mids/highs,, we will find out in 30 minutes,  just loaded in a  temp cabinety, Vid comming in 30 minutes.
'Huge magnet . Nd?
Not sure  waiting on seller to respond.
His VX6 says **Nd*  but no mention of Fe or Nd on the VX8.
I mean this driver is extremely well constructed.  Someone in china knows how to build a  WD..
But can he make it sing..??
This we will all find out in 30 minutes,,,,see you then... speakers are all hooked up ready to go...be right back....
bache379 posts08-25-2021 2:53pmgo ahead , you are on the right way now
~~~~~~~~~~
With a  Lil help from my friends,,
Joe Cocker
WoodStock, 69

Yeah you really saved mea  head ache..
Based on my exp of the Vox **pill** neo dymium magnet system,,I had a  hunch the 1880/1772  same pill thingy,,might not give up the goods, as per my DL seller as well : Confirmed.
Your  thumbs down , double confirm
AND you gave thumbs up to the 2145 which i had serious considerations.

Just waiting for the DLVX8 to arrive , so I can ck quality on bass/mids/highs.,
If all are top dawgs,, I may hold off on the TB 2145,,,but I doubt it,,  ,,for $250,, the TB might beat out the DL Yellow cone .
This would mean the DL6 Yellow cone goes on ebay 70% off/free ship and the TB2145 stays with the DLVX8.
Gonna run dual WBers per channel.
Thats 4 wide banders,  fora  huge soundstange... gain on vol will have to be no more than 8!!!!!!!!! Oclock,, = using no more than say 10 of the Defy7's  solid 100 watts.
Has 12 KT88's //////for dual WBers + 4 W18E001's.
10 watts!!!!!
Gonna sound like a  rock concert style sound.
I really need a  20x20 listening room to accomadate dual WB's.
Considering both will be the big boys, The 8's.

well I can tell you right now,.
The big WB shootout will be
DLVX8
vs
TB2145

Just a  hunch, tells me,,well i am not going to give  a hunch,,,best gun slinger wins..is how this will go down at
The old  speaker OK Corral....
Gonna be bloody.
2 of the biggest baddest WB gunners in the ol west...

OK
WB 101
Magnet important
Cone material more important

Magnets
Nd = Neo Dymium
Fe = Ferrite
I much prefer Nd,,however as my tech reminds me, a  big Fe = a  smaller Nd = same reulst,,
Maybe. But I personaly prefer Nd. = Pay more, worth the 2x's price??? Maybe not.
 Cone material
Paper
Treated paper
bamboo  Fiber
Wood Fiber (= Bamboo fiber??)

Calligraphy paper super thin as in Voxativ, No good,
AER super thin, type?? Not sure,  wont say on site,
All YOU need to know is  **Thin paper* not good for reproducing deep solid bass.
Treated paper = very good

Bamboo Fiber as in TB 2145, read Bache's comment above =  winner
Wood  fiber (bamboo wood fiber??)
as in the DL VX6 and VX8,
Not sure, as i am waiting any day for the speaker, DHL is behind  due to  plane shortage.

6's usually superior highs at the slight expense of bass.
Mids good.
8's less highs , but superior bass, mids good.

Db sensitivity, 91-95db sens.  Ideal. Dont need 96+ db, as you get a  too forward midrange = too  aggressive midrange.
The TB 2145, 90db, For me this is perfect. I tend to believe a  lower db sens in WB's gives a  superior punch to bass. 89db too low,
IDEALLY 90/91db for good solid bass. (could be wrong, waiting on the VX8 for confirmation on this theory)
The DLVX8 says 95db. We will see how this affects performance. Is this a  TRUE 95db sens? We will see.
The DL Yellow cone, /91db sens = accurate spec.

So we have
magnet material + weight of magnet
cone material
db sensitivity spec.

WB 101 to be continued.... stay tuned.....
Believe or not, It was in fact the 2145 that caught my eye, IF, I ever decided to try out the TB.
 Why?
Nice big heavy ferrite magnet
+ The extra added surround looks like a  winner
+ The cone is dif vs the 1880/1772, bamboo FIBER vs treated paper.
+ price is very reasonable.
I can tell the metal phase plug really puts out sparkly highs.
Meaning I might dump the Kasun paper 3.5 tweet if that metal phase pulg puts out crystaline highs.
Thanks for the tip.

...just RE-visiting the YT vid on the 2145, which convinced me this driver was something special,,, just cked now,,and sure enough,, I will have to make the order for this driver.
Bass and highs are super,,and voice extremely accurate.

bache378 posts08-25-2021 10:51am@mozartfan, i have big experience, with Tang Band, 1808 with Neodim magnet is garbage , they got cone break and big pick 3000-5000Hz. i use a lot and replaced with 2145 regular magnet, 2145 came on production later the 1808 and get much more bettter paper cone with bamboo fiber. so come stronger them 1808, result - very small pick, after removing parasitic whizzer cone and adding supertweeter Fostex  and adding 2 Eton Simphony line woofers as helper , i got model Tribeca-001 with a lot a happy customers

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Huge help her.
***Garbage*** Then my hunch was correct.
I tried hard to figure out the cone material used in the 1808 and 1772 (same driver),
It was when I loked close at 1  pic,, that I realized it was NOT on the same level material as the DL Yellow and DLVX8.
I was cking out the 2145,, and wanted to know which was the later driver, = more recent usually better performance..
So I will certainly look into the 2145/bamboo fiber cone.
But not sure if I willl buy, if the Davidlouis VX8 performs well, makes no sense to add the TB 2145.
But I just might,,, let me look at the 2145 now,,,be back later......On the woofers,, I willl look at the Tons... But honestly I like the Seas W18's and I want to get my money out these W18's. I've spent alot past 2 yrs,,,
