Tbg, Dont hold your breath about the SR web page being updated. |
I would like to add that I have recently moved my Hologram A power cord from my Amp to my Preamp. I also moved the Presicion Ref power cord from the Preamp to my Amp. I have only listened to this switch for a few hours thus far, but so far, I like what I am hearing. Better high Frequencies and better imaging.
I also have other power cords, a T2 on my Quattro, and a Hologram D On my CD Player. Along with Apex speaker cables and interconnects and my PowerCell SE |
Bacardi , Well I have played around with the Hologram A now on my Preamp and the Precision Ref now on my Amp for about a week and here it what I conclude so far. There is definitly a better focused image and more presence in the Higher frequency. But, something is lot different in the sound. Very hard to descibe. Perhaps it is because I have just been so used to the sound with the Power cables installed the other way around that this is now hard to get used to. I am not sure if this change in total is a better sound than when the power cables were in there original position. I still need to evaluate for another week, then I will change them back and hear what happens.
I think it is something worth trying in your system though, let me know what you think. |
Update: from 1-20-2010 post
Well I have moved the Precision Ref Power cord back to my Preamp and the Hologram A back to my Amp. This is the way I will keep it. It sounds more natural.
The Precision Ref is a very good power cord, and in my system it should be used on my Preamp. It was much better than the T2 that everyone recommends for Preamps.
So, I guess trial and error is still the best way to see what works best for each component. |
Bacardi, I have a T2 powering a Quattro. The Quattro is powered by my Powercell 10SE. The Powercell has Gallio Mini couplers. My Preamp(Pass Labs XP-10)sounds was better with the Precision power cord than when I used the T2 on it. |
The Galileo's may be better than the Quattro in sound performance but I dont like all the mini couplers to deal with. Besides, with the Powercell using 2 Galileos and the Quattro being plugged into the Powercell, am I really missing that much? |
Joeyboynj , How did you get the Mini Couplers plugged into the bottom outlet on the Powercell ? Are you using cones? |
Ok guys, I am going to try one set of the MIGS's.
The BIG quaestion is where will it have the best impact??
1. I have a Cary 306 Pro which has huge spiked feet that I dont think should be removed.
2. I have a Cary XP-10 Preamp
3. Pass Labs X350.5 Amp (150 lbs)
4. and a Powercell 10SE which nows has high sharp composite spikes underneath it.
5. alll SR cables , interconnects, speaker, power.
So, again where is the best place to place one set based on my system??? |
Tbg, The Amp weighs 150 lbs. Will the MIG's support it ? |
Thanks for the help. Presently my 150 lb Amp sits on a 4" block of Maple with a high gloss black finish. Under the Maple is (4) 2" threaded Audiopoints.
I will try two of the MIGs in the front and one in the back. I hope the MIG's dont dig into the Maple.
A couple of suggestions with the Powercell is to place Mrytle blocks under the MIG's. Of couse only after all your power cords have been attached. That way the MPC's will clear the bottom.
Another idea is to use little jumper cords designed for the wall wart plugs. They will allow you to plug the short jumper into the Powercel and the MPC then into the jumper. |
Scottmac62 , No the jumpers were bought at a hardware store. |
Scottmac62, Get some High sharp composite type spikes from Stewart at the Sanctuary of Sound . They will raise the Powercell high enough and also help with the sonics. |
The cones I have mentioned are not metal. I dont know exactly what they are made of but they are hard like Black Diamond Racing cones. |
Tbg, No they are black , tall and sharp. |
Bacardi, Yes I have plugged a Fathom F113 into the Powercell. I have recently though moved the sub to an unused dedicated outlet. I have also moved my Power Amp to another unused dedicated outlet. Both of these outlets have Teslaplex outlets and Hologram A Power cords
Though the Powercell can handle everything I own including all my home theater equipment. I feel that the two largest current draws I have are still better on there own dedicated outlets. Afterall using everything on just one outlet which is only 20 Amps there could be the possiblity of limiting the dynamics.
This then leaves the Powercell on its own dedicated outlet to power my CD, Preamp, CDR, and the Home theater equipment. |
The Alan Maher items I am using are called CBF . I have 3 of them . One at my Cicuit breaker Main Breaker, one om my dedicated circuit breaker to my Powercell and one over the bottom outlet on my telasplex. The Powercell is plugged into the top. These increase the Blackness and dynamics and improves performance of the powercell.
I also have made several Modified MPC's that I saw on AA. It basically uses 3 High Quality Caps. 2 of the Caps are from Russia. They really bring out the detail. I also have found an easy way to convert this modified MPC to power 4-6 items (Led's). I am trying to figure out how to post pictures. If anyone wants a picture send me an email. |
Just got 3 sets of Migs. At the present time I have them all in the Pinpoint configuration.
I also now have 3 Galileo MPCs that are plugged into my Powercell SE. The MPC mods that I did to the regular MPCs are now coming into there own and it may be a bigger improvement than the Galileo MPC's. |
The Migs are quite interesting.. Under my Preamp and Amp it is a no brainer much better in the Pinpoint Config.
On my Cary 306 Pro CD player though neither position beats just using the Cary Tall machined spikes. Since I now have an extra pair of the Migs I would like to try them on my Powercell. Not sure how I am going to lift it up high enough to clear the Galileos plugged into the back of the Powercell. My choices sem to remove the tall sharp spikes I am presently using and place either myrtle blocks under a Mig or some ceramic tiles under the Mig's. Any other suggestions would be helpful. If this proves to be too much trouble < iw ill use them under my Oppo 83 SE.
Barcardi, I am sure the Migs would improve your sub, but I think you would get more bang for your bucks on your stereo components. Also,to the question on plugging a Galileo into your Powecell. Running the dual leads to the Powercell and Powercord is a must. Think about it everything plugged into the Powercell will benifit by the use of that Galileo.
SR great products. service and helpful Audiogon members. |
They look to be about 1 1/4" tall |
Here is a copy of my posting in the Tech Section on the Audio Prism Ground Control units. I thought I would share it with the SR croud since it complements my SR speaker cables so much.
Well I finally had one of the Ground Controls for about a week. I will admit that these little things dont look like much but they do provide a marked sound quality, improvemnent in my system. Music seems to be much more relaxed or natural and the soundstage is deeper and wider. Vocals are very nice and defined closer to the real thing. I liked the Ground Control device so much that I ordered another for my Bi-wire speakers.
Now, I am using the Synergistic Research Apex Bi wire speaker cables and these have the active shielding. Perhaps because of this the Ground Control complements the cables. I duuno, but they are worth the price of the improvement in sound even though they dont look like much. Highly recommended |
Tbg, I would think they will. But, the only way to know is to give them a try. |
Synergistic Research has sent me several different types of small adapters to help me for little or no charge, I guess because I have bought so many items from them and considered a loyal customer. I dont have the cheater adapters but I think if I asked Synergistic for some they would provide them again at little or no cost. But then again, if everyone started asking for freebies they would take the opportunity to add those items to there product line up and figure out a cost for them.
I think it is just good customer service. |
Fplanner2010, What is confusing is the 48" length of your "pigtails". Mine are about 12". |
For My Oppo BP 83SE ananlog outputs I am using Electraglide Silver signatures. I dont think they are made anymore. I also think Morrow MA4's would be great with the Oppo. Great cables at a great price. Of course, you can also buy SR Apex or PR you would need 3 pairs... Analog outs is the only way to go with the Oppo BP-83SE. |
I have found that when using the Apex Interconnect from source to Preamp it has sort of a euphoric sound. But, then add the Precision Reference connection to the Preamp to Amp and it will add the sparkle and pinpoint soundstage. Dynamite Combo! |
I have had several pairs of the MG's for quite some time. I have all of them in the PinPoint set up with 2 in the front and one in the back. My Preamp always seemed to be back heavy. Today, I just moved the 2 MG's from the front to the back and the one MG from the back to the front.
Well, after that exchange, the Preamp does seem much more stable. But, the sound also seems to have improved. There is a tighter sound , with much more body and dynamics.
Who would have thunk it... |
Bacardi, Against all recommendations, I found that a Precision Ref to be the best on my Pass Labs Preamp. |
Bacardi, I also have the Powercell 10SE with its Precision Ref power cord. I have tried every SR Power cord on my Preamp and for MY equipment (Pass Labs) I found the Precision Ref to work the best. Hologram A and T3 too boomy. T2 was sort of a lightweight in the frequency extremes.
But again these results are with My equipment. |
Flashunlock, I am using the Mg's the way you have asked for both my Amp and Preamp due to the weight and balance of the componenta. Also with my Pass Labs Amp I found it to be more dynamic plugged into its own dedicated 20 Amp Tesla outlet than plugging it into the SR Powercel 10SE and sharing one outlet with everything else. |
As much as I liked the Synergistic stuff, I just couldnt keep up with the dollars needed for the continuous upgrades. I got off that ride and went to simpler cables of very high quality conductors. |
I wonder if setting my Squeezebox Touch and my Hard drive on top of my Powercell would accomplish the same thing as using the tranquility base? |
Joeyboynj, Just for my clairty. The Lifetime Passport trade-in program means you had to purchase items costing twice as much as you traded in to get 70% off the trade in. In other words you had to buy $10,000 of equipment to trade in your $5000 Powercell to get $3000 for it. Meaning you had to come up with $7000 to purchase the $5000 new Powercell and etc items. Is that correct? |
