In a word, no. Subs need room to breathe. You will have a booming, very directional sound with muddied bass. I suggest you either place the sub out into the room or do without and run the speakers full frequency. If needed, you could disguise the sub as an end table or place a cloth over the top. Even so, the placement in the room needs to be done carefully so as to maximize the potential of the sub. Good luck!
The sub may actually affect your picture???
Someone told me once that the best/cheapest way to find where the sub should go is to place the sub around where you would like it, then move around the room with your head at about listening height and where ever the bass sounds best is where you should move the sub to (within reason...).
The sub should be next to one of your mains. Dial it in there and it will sound correct.

I think you mean, "place the sub around where you will sit", right? The idea being that the frequency response between one point in the room and another doesn't depend on which end is the speaker and which is the listener.
