Speaker driver cone repair

I just fired up a pair of speakers with 9" Dynaudio woofers. Sounded fine but when I took off the grill screens in one speaker I found vertical tears on both sides of the center in the woofer surround about 4 to 6 inches long. I believe it is rubber. I have no idea how this came to be. The speakers haven't really been used for about 10 years.

Is this something that can be easily repaired. How?

Newbee...there are lots of DIY foam surround kits out there. I've tried it myself and totally effed it up, but maybe you would have better luck. I really recommend letting someone who knows how to do it repair it.

Just because it has a foam surround doesn't mean it will be any easier. The foam surrounds are usually a little cheaper than the butyl rubber ones, but they go on the same way.
