spdif to lumin u1 mini

I'm trying to find a way to get the optical (spdif/toslink) out from my tv to stream to my lumin u1 mini. This seems to be much more difficult that it sounds. Any suggestions?

What Dac are you using and why don't you run the TV straight into your Dac?
