I have an SME Model 10 with SME V arm. I use the Hovland Music Groove 2 cable which replaced a Harmonic Technologies Copper Phono cable. Both are far better than the stock SME cable IMO. Basically, I found the difference is that more information comes through with the better cables. More detail, greater frequency range, more like music.
