SMARTractor Anyone?

I am familiar with the Mint. I have part of one that I bought but did not use on my Scoutmaster. Lost part of it in my last move.

The problem with the Mint is having to order one for every turntable. I have several tables and hopefully will someday be able to afford a different arm for the SOTA. Not to say I don't like the 309, but I would like something like the TriPlaner that has easier VTA adjustment.

Albert is right on, if you want a correct response, the MINT is the solution.

You may also find that correct is much better, and more listenable, than close.

My Kleos/SME 309 did not track well with Brakemeier's Uni alignment so I used the cheapo SME paper guide to put it back to whatever the SME standard is.

SME depends on the cartridge manufacturer to conform to industry standards set long ago. Unfortunately cantilever length varies slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer and even same manufacturer between quality levels.

The MINT protractor is custom built and if you supply a photo of your cartridge showing cantilever and diamond against a clear ruler (in MM) they will build the perfect protractor.

SME achieves overhang by varying spindle to mount distance via the geared mount assembly. When you move that distance to accommodate the stylus the geometry is no longer correct.

The MINT protractor is marked for exact turntable (spindle diameter) plus tonearm brand AND cartridge brand. I think it's the most accurate with Wally and UNI close behind.

The good news is the MINT is cheap, about $100.00.

As you now probably realize, yours is the more expensive one that came first.

Mine is built by Acoustical Systems and designed by Brakemeier and when I typed in SMARTractor at Google and read the specs I assumed it was the same product.

I have one along with several set up templates. Excellent product.

Templates? It has multiple alignment grids.

Have you tried the Uni alignment? On mine when I tighten the screw the lines do not line up exactly. I need to call Vana.
