I replaced the positive first. White, Black and then Ground.
Shouldn’t Do This, but…
Hi All,
I just finished moving into my new apartment. The landlord is a little touchy about certain things. For example, he was opposed to my wanting to store boxes in the basement, of all things. Today I spent the day unboxing stereo equipment. Anyhow, I have a Cruz First Maestro receptacle and I want to switch that out with the original but I don’t have access to the fuse box in the basement. I’ve switched out receptacles with the electric on before but I hate doing it. Any advice or words of encouragement?

@goofyfoot I would advise you to NOT do this. Yes, you can replace the receptacle but you are almost certainly breaking the terms of your lease if you do so. And you are inviting a lawsuit if your improvement somehow causes a fire or other problem. Lastly, if you replace the receptacle the building owner now owns your receptacle, not you. You are renting a space. They own the walls and wiring. It would be nice if they would accommodate you but but they probably won't, for liability and building safety/code reasons. |
