HDR is noticabke regardless of viewing distance, you are probably thinking about 4K, but for your setup, you would still benefit from 4K, as you get full 1080p at ~30° viewing angle, and you are at ~35.5°.
HDR gives a few benefits:
* Brighter highlights
* More precise colors/brightness (more bits to represent more shades)
* Wider color gamut (think of 1080p as only getting as saturated as pink, whereas HDR can get as saturated as red, but to a lesser extent).
All that being said, I’d wait until you upgraded your projector.
