Sherwood S5000II speaker connection question also recap

I recently purchased a Sherwood S5000II integrated amplifier on a whim and after a bit of work I want to test the unit. Question is about speaker connection. I am not a vintage guy so bear with me. So 1 set of terminals have G, 4,8,16 each with a corresponding terminal/speaker screw. So common ground and different ohm taps. The other speaker connection has 2 screws that I would assume are also commons, but arent marked as such. Also are the 4, 8 and 16 ohm taps. A wire comes out of the amplifier chassis and is hooked onto the 8 ohm tap on this side only. I assume I should run a jumper wire connecting the the left and right commons and use the correct ohm taps.

My other question is if it would be worth it to recap. There are kits available. I only want to do this if this unit is going to compete with my more modern tube amps. To date I havent found this old iron to be as much to my taste and my more modern tube units. The amp uses 7868 power tube and have a copper cahssis.
