jazz
we had stake in Aero Vodochody light attack/ trainers and the various section structures work they picked up as a subcontractor to primes... |
oh man jazz one of my favorite cities in tge world...a hot Aesthetix date in that town !!!!!!!! as you no doubt know a stop in Pilsen for some beer and MEAT is an essential diversion.....
man, i dont miss trying to build airplanes there...but I do miss that corner of the world..
keep us in the loop on the sounds
|
the Atlas is a very very fine match !!! Jim White and RV are collaborators for sure to wit the built in high pass filters keep us in the loop the Atlas stereo and mono both have serious low end vise like control, probably worth looking at vandertones again just to see.... best
|
I had the Ayre VX-R Twenty and it is no slouch for sure i would say any amp Ayre makes is worth trying for sure Charlie a gifted engineer with ears, RIP brother
i amrunning Richards amp now...... holy S ........ staying up my bedtime listening is my new avocation...
thank God I am retired...
ha
|
Aesthetix Atlas Stereo amp is a killer i know of one in Seattle area maybe $5k its at Gig Harbor Audio
|
Ha! wondered how you were doing i had 5a with a loaner ARC Ref 75 we for a weekend adequate for reasonable levels but did not have the sense of ease I look for.... so something North of 75 wpc..., now having said that I am planning on trying to run a pair of Treo CT with my MC 240 ( in a Condo ) we shall see how that goes.... i do know of people running the 60 wpc Quicksilvers with much bliss....

you might call The Music Room in Colorado, they are fantastic and will resell. You will not likely net as much $$$$$ but you will also go thru a LOT less hassle
|
Ja_zz
can you send me a pic also
jimtrish247@yahoo.com
|
the tilt can be found from the manual !!!!!
which you can down load from the Vandersteen website
for free
you need to follow isoquant lines depending on two important variables: distance from acoustic center of speaker and height of your ears in the listening position
those will tell you how many washers to put under each cone
|
i called the sage of Hanford..left a message..
you might be on your own till Tuesday, ( put that on repeat in your CD player )
if by some crazy chance I get an answer will post it up
|
gently lay speakers on sides and Tuesday take a photo / email / call Vandersteen i have never setup Quattros but have 5a and 7 and this does not seem right.... which may also explain your sellers loss of the missing cones....
|
5a cones are 1/4 x 20 i believe.....probably rare as hens teeth in Russia....
|
audio tools runs on my ipad... what is unknown is the mapping of the microphone to the RS analog meter, IF I were home I could do this....
i would say use what you have as long as you can generate test tones on the Vandersteen EQ centers
remember we are NOT trying to equalize perfectly flat anyway just knock down the bigger nodes and fix cancellation a bit
|
Jazz i understand no stones just want you getting as Johnny said “ what you paid for”
now about the spl meter... my understanding is that Vandertones are compensated to adjust for non linearity of the R Shack meter
i have used Audiotools and a calibrated microphone with the Vandertones disc with ok results.
note also the analog eq centers are not what you typically see on an RTA as they represent typical room issues versus octave intervals....
so for best results buy a meter meter and download vandertones |
Johnny R is right....take the time to go thru the setup per the manual and it is downloadable along with Vandertones via the Vandersteen website must get the Radio Shack analog SPL meter to set the bass EQ you will be shocked at how bumpy your room - any room is without fixing it... finally get the eq controls centered as previous owner probably set them to room..
|
Ayre is white light pure water adds very very little coloration.... Charley ( RIP ) a very talented and principled designer, a genius and a very astute ear.... so the rep in my opinion well deserved!
until recently I hung my Reference amp hat on his VX-R Twenty bested by Richard Vandersteen new amp but at a price for sure
as for your pre-amp CJ give it a chance those are some very talented guys with good ears and design sense.....
|
|
cool ! man i can hardly imagine the logistics trail to you and back in Russia.....something we take for granted here...our Winter place is a relatively short 5 hour drive from Vandersteen Mecca......
|
dark they aint.... etched super hifi pained in an hour no......
as for records it might be that tracking the countless hundreds of improvements and storing all that including drivers matched to within .1 db would kill the frugal dutchman and I suspect require a Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse... remember he sold a quarter million model 2.... also and i suspect some of his matching techniques require nulling drivers which IF ya think about it goes far beyond recording a few values....
i need to chat w him tommorow anyway as the amps are in breakin...wait till i tell him he can eliminate the midrange....wish me luck
|
certainly visually stunning !!!!!
|
that link takes me right to Manaforts lawyer.... just kidding i like your attitudes about not having an understudy visible and yet waiting in the wings... so i have a vintage room system where i keep the backups - its really is a work room....
|
gdnr.....leave the mxr on ! they take quite a bit to really warm up and bloom
but i can assure you they are very very good i first heard them driving model 7 at RV’s
|
i ran my 5a with Mac 202, then Ayre VX-R, then got 7, then upgraded to VX-R Twenty, traded that in on Vandersteen Monoblocks.
i will say that i have heard Quattro really sing on Ayre, Quicksilver, VTL, Aesthetix, ARC and Atmosphere amps... with the powered bass you have such an unfair advantage in amplifier choice...vs full range amps that can drive a spike to center of the earth type bass...
i have been helping brother in law dial in his model 2 C signature and he is using a Odyssey amp from Klaus which punches way way above class, especially for a SS amp
|
bummer on the wait good that RV can rebuild.... i forgot to ask him about this yesterday...
silver lining - me personally i would take this , golden opportunity to get that second set of nice backup speakers..
my list in descending order: 7 mk2 Apogee Stage Klipsch Cornwall Bryston MiniA ADS L-730 Dynaco A-25
my plan is get rid of the junkpile except the A-25 for garage and get a pair of Treo CT
|
IF they are same spikes as 5a they are very nice and IMO very reasonably priced for audio jewelry- i bought 6 when i made maple amp stands for my Vintage Mac gear to bi-amp my Apogee Stages..
you can bet that was a very interesting conversation with Richard
also IF you want most of the benefit of the spike but do not want to marr floors, they also have a machined aluminum cup with felt. i have tgese on my 7
makes tweaking placement easy ,,,,
good luck on the driver - hope you can do it locally
|
call RV on Monday use the Dutch keyboard
|
I must have that &@$€£¥* ! Italian keyboard also
i just wanted to explain my bias
and yes lucky bastard
Jazz - must be some Quattro stocking Vandy dealers somewhere on your whirlwind USA vacation pathway....
|
Da your password is secure !!! hope you have a fantastic vacation here i did a bit of an AM email exchange with RV the measured response was a room floor bounce / wall coupling issue that JA did measure but that you do not see in the anechoic chamber plots, completely fixining it for real rooms = box like sound that Vandersteen not known for. the Quattro is designed for closer placement to back wall for ( my words) WAF you might chat with RV about changes thru the production run prior to the CT i did not ask about that i am a fan with 7 MK2 in my home and his amps on the way so I am bissed 2nd home will get Quattro CT some day
|
probably a plot to make it look like the Italians did it.....
|
again....use the phone and call Richard...hardworking dude picks up the phone.... he actually uses science and measures his speakers so IF there is a “ lower midrange suckuot” he would know and could probably tell you IF he made chages to rectify that. he is all about continual improvement to the product. you might also look at the “ ask Richard” section of the website
|
jazz i was not poking at your amp the powered sub and hi pass filter take the load off any amp you choose to use
MF makes fine sounding products, his all class A 100 watt battleship is still one of the best amps i have ever heard period.
i had a MC202 driving 3a Sig for a decade getting the autoformers out of the way is important but i upgraded to 5a first then an Ayre amp replaced the Mac.
CTsooner and gdnrbob could coment extensively about Treo
again if it were me - Quatro all day long
|
you could also call Richard....
|
Q all the way 11 bands of analog bass EQ powered sub your amp works hardly at all opens up a wide range of tube or SS amps including OTL designs
|
