What about using Lacie network storage unit. Connect to network get your
new DAC (Ayre, AudioNote, McIntosh) and you should be able to access files
via USB and transfer music to iPod from iMac.
Or
Get a Time Capsule with automatic wireless backup for your Mac. Available in
500GB and 1TB models.
