Sepakers -vr5's or something along the 4-7k range

Looking for full range, full body, nice imaging and sound staging, good off-axis sound, fast and detailed.
At least moderate efficiency, tube friendly impedence.

Considering VR5's HSE or non-HSE, or sending vr4's in to get Mod5+HSE upgrade.

Hi KP. I think you'd be really happy with the mods to your 4's. I have the Gen III's & they were recommended to me over the 5's. Everything I've heard about the upgraded 4's has been positive & I'm sure someone will comment directly.
If you really dig what the VR-4s do then the upgrade might be the best thing. Got to speak with some VonSchweikert folks at HE2002 and they said the VR-5 is more quick and agile while the VR-4 III has more bottom end--for whatever that's worth.

But, if you are finding the VR-4s lacking in certain respects I'd try to check out the Silverline La Folias--not that they're necessarily better but may(or may not) do better in certain areas if you're noticing any deficiencies with the VR-4s. Coincident Total Eclipses might be worth a look too. Best of luck.

I generally do like the VR sound, as does Mrs. Piggy.
We have a pair of 3's and a pair of 4's.
I figure "more and better of the same" then would be a good route.
Driver, the mod route was my original goal but with used 5's going for (relatively) reasonable cost I'm wavering. No shipping hassles and no down-time (well, I'd set up the 3's so that would not be all that horrible).

Yeah, I even thought about the HSE 5's but the deciding factor for me was the bass. Maybe talk with Albert himself & get his input.
Anyone compare the VR5 to the VR5HSE?
Is the diffrence substantial?

Ljgj, not familar with speakers you mentioned.

The VR5 HSE were designed specificaly with tube gear in mind. The HSEs are much more articulate, and transparent than the standard fives. No question they are also much quicker than the Gen IIIs,If 2 channel is the majority of your listening, than the VR5 HSE is the only way to go.If HT is more important, then the upgraded version is the way to go.Be aware you will lose you speakers for around 2 months.
Go to harmonicdiscord.com and punch in VMPS site search and there is plenty on the RM 40's.
KP, the VR5-HSEs sound terrific with the Rogue Magnum M-120s, presuming you're still running the Rogues.
Yes, still running Rogues.

Future plan is to (assuming business goes continues to do well) put about 10k in some heavy duty tube amps.

I love the Rogues, now I want more of the same!
