Same Cooke- Heard this one?

I've always been a Sam Cooke fan. One of the finest voices in popular music as far as I'm concerned. But, I never dug deep or looked for the better recordings. Always just listened to his popular stuff.

I came across the song Lost and Lookin' on Qobuz this evening. It is off the The Man Who Invented Soul 4 CD collection.

It is just Sam's voice and a bass. Very simple. Very well recorded. Possibly the best example of Sam's wonderful voice out there.

I bought the 4 CD set off eBay right away. Not sure if there is a vinyl version.

Anyway, if you're a Sam fan but haven't heard this one it is worth a listen.

Yeah.  I've got it on Sam Cooke's Night Beat.  All the songs have that laid-back late-night feel.

Sam had an incredible voice.  He was a big influence on Rod Stewart and Southside Johnny, both of whom did Sam Cooke medleys in their shows.  I'm sure a lot of other people were influenced too.  Thanks for the reminder.

Love me some Sam Cooke, what a shame his life came to an end as it did. Check out his work with the Soul Stirrers where he shared the vocal with another great singer, Little Johnny Taylor. Enjoy the music

Thanks @n80! Much appreciated. Although a long time Sam Cooke fan, I hadn't heard that particular track. To echo @tomcy6, Sam's voice was indeed incredible. He brought such range, emotion, and that elusive thing called "soul" to his music.
