Thank you everyone for your input. I finally tracked down a dealer with both the McIntosh and Rotel Michi preamps. It was worth the 4 hour drive (each way).
The Rotel Michi is a very solid build and had my favorite remote and menu interface. The pre-amp really put the voices up front and made them feel real / in-person. The issue is that it seemed to mute the rest of the instrumentals to accomplish it.
The C53 (no C49 in stock) did a better job of creating a full sound stage. It also provided a fuller bass.
So that being said - I bought neither.
I did buy a C22. The tube preamp just created a warmer fuller sound that sang to my heart.
Speakers used - B&W 702 S2AMP - McIntosh MC152Streamer - B&W Formation Audio StreamerSource - Tidal HiFi
Music from Melody Gardot, Gregory Porter, Flim & the BBs, Simon & Garfunkle and Tom Scott
